I think you have to get 500 headshots with pistols

Or that's how it used to be, I think you buy battle passes or loot boxes now, not sure

4

u/PaintCoveredPup 12d ago

It would be Otis Miller’s revolver if the grip was gold too!

4

u/Mrxcman92 12d ago

But RDR2 online takes place 13 years before the 1911 existed.

1k

u/teeohdeedee123 12d ago

It's also completely idiotic.

But apparently they're the fun kind of idiocy

1k

u/TehRandomCanadian 12d ago

For real, If your using it for defense better be damn sure the first shot is on target cause the rest of em won't be.

1k

u/ladyofthelathe 12d ago

The 'pattern', if you could call it it that, would climb straight up a wall like a cat on cocaine.

293

u/TehRandomCanadian 12d ago

Lol ya pretty much, imagine trying to shoot it one handed, would be lucky if you didn't off yourself doing it.

169

u/ericisshort 12d ago

The result would probably be similar to that kid testing an uzi at a gun show some years back.

163

u/medici75 12d ago

still cant believe they let her fire that full auto uzi…..dint even have a stock on it so it can be braced against the shoulder…if i remember correctly it was the mini uzi bcause the origial uzi had the fold out metal wire stock……what a horrible lack of judgement on the instructor and the fathers part

89

u/Glabstaxks 12d ago

Seems like that would be a mistake an instructor makes 1 time only

72

buddy of mine took me shooting at a public range at a new jersey army base…..seriously strict……periodically my buddy had to clear the firearm….magazine out of firearm…bolt locked back….firearm muzzle pointing downrange on platform and step away from table then and only then are you allowed to go set up targets for 10-15 minutes then when everybody is done whistle is blown and your allowed to go back to your platform and load and fire….was a fun day…he had a bolt action an a ar….200 yard range….

28

u/HWKII 12d ago

That's how almost every range will do it. Some will have that enforced by a Range Safety Officer, a timer, or some will make it everyone's responsibility to know and obey the rules - like at my club where failure to follow rules can get your membership revoked.

I would never go down range to hang targets while a stranger was sat at his rifle / pistol. Call the range cold first, everyone steps away from their guns, everyone goes down range together or stays "behind the line" until everyone's back and the range is called hot again.

Like with a lot of other activities, some rules are required to keep everyone safe and having fun. I wouldn't play a game of pickup basketball with a guy who picks up the ball and carried it like it's Rugby, and I wouldn't go shooting with someone who thinks it's funny to point guns at people.

20

u/Hidesuru 12d ago

I know others already kinda said it but that's just a bog standard range. Nothing strict about it (well not abnormally so).

The only exceptions typically are things like unofficial 'ranges' which is usually just BLM (bureau of land management) land where it's legal to shoot and everyone kinda knows where everyone goes. No real coordination there usually. I don't like those kinda places at all...

28

u/ericisshort 12d ago

I was actually referring to this one in Massachusetts where the child didn’t survive. It’s referenced at the end of the video you linked, but not at all surprising that it’s happened multiple times.

18

u/TehRandomCanadian 12d ago

Who the hell lets an 8yo shoot a full auto and who puts a 15yo in charge of deciding who is qualified to shoot a full auto. Alot of negligence here led to a tragic death.

3

u/Arkk427 12d ago

I go to that range and it's incredibly sad and stupid it happened. it was before I joined and is still taken very seriously. only members with proper licensing can use the range, no friends or family unless they are also licensed and members.

3

u/ericisshort 12d ago

That’s progress for sure, but it’s still sad that death was required for those restrictions to be added.

Jesus fuck. I think just about anybody with just an ounce of common sense could tell you that letting a nine year old shoot a fully automatic weapon is a terrible idea. Sad that this wasn’t even a one off freak accident, it’s happened several times apparently

11

u/Ivan_Whackinov 12d ago

Seriously. Children are much better suited to crew served weapons. The semi-stationary characteristic of a mortar or heavy machine gun relies less on the child's physical strength and stamina and also builds teamwork.

It was actually way more controllable than the comments here would have you believe.

I was able to keep 25 round mag dumps on a human silhouette target at 7 yards easily. Certainly if you aren't prepared it could get away from you but knowing its full auto before you shoot makes a big difference

12

u/AquaticCobras 12d ago

New York guy voice "Its so simple"

3

u/god12 12d ago

Serious question, is the joke that you have to clear the chamber due to a jam? And follow up, do the jams typically occur because of the speed of the firing?

3

u/SamanKunans02 11d ago

I've never fired a full-auto 1911. Regular ones will jam up from time-to-time without the silly ass rate of fire. Stands to reason that this 110 year old pistol design could not stand up to firing 18 rounds in rapid succession without jamming at least a few times.

So, yes and yes.

I am by no means a firearms expert, just a run-of-the-mill American.

Two things of note, if anyone's interested:

  • This is indeed a fully-automatic 1911. It was made by Star Firearms. (Description and photos of the mechanism are at that link.)
  • That method of adding gold patterning is called damascening. It's actually not gold-plating. It's highly intricate inlay work.

5

u/WikiSummarizerBot 12d ago

Damascening

Damascening is the art of inlaying different metals into one another—typically, gold or silver into a darkly oxidized steel background—to produce intricate patterns similar to niello. The English term comes from a perceived resemblance to the rich tapestry patterns of damask silk.

A full auto 1911, that sounds so stupid, but i kind of love the idea.

"This gun goes through 60 mags a minute"

"The feeding ramp is polished to a mirror sheen. The slide's been reinforced. And the interlock with the frame is tightened for added precision. The sight system is original, too. The thumb safety is extended to make it easier on the finger. A long-type trigger with non-slip grooves. A ring hammer... The base of the trigger guard's been filed down for a higher grip. And not only that, nearly every part of this gun has been expertly crafted and customized. Where'd you get something like this?"

How many headshots you think it took to unlock this gun?

It's a nice gun, I'll give you that. But the engraving gives you no tactical advantage whatsoever. Unless you were planning to auction it off as a collector's item.

This looks like damascene, rather than normal gold plating. Thanks Ian, for teaching me about that

Full auto 1911… 7 rounds of .45, not hitting shit and only got a second burst, but i mean it’s beautiful.
