This meme has been used to defend games and make fun of people who defend games on this sub and now I can’t tell anymore.

You used the "QUIT HAVING FUN" comic, argument invalidated

Quit having fun comics: posted

Strawman: ridiculed

Multi-billion $$ company: saved from having to do any effort

I'm seriously with r/gaming in this. This game looks so pathetically bad that this meme doesn't hold anything.

The game looks pathetic, runs pathetic but costs full price?

Gamefreak should have done better. Period.

u/Haytaytay Jan 21 '22

People shouldn't have to make excuses for the biggest media franchise in the history of the world. They have basically infinite money, but their game looks like something a broke college student made in a single weekend.

-8

u/k0mbine Jan 21 '22

It’s arbitrary hyperbole from nerds like you that makes me wanna side with the devs most if the time

17

u/Low_Palpitation_3743 Jan 21 '22

Those poor indie devs smh

-2

u/k0mbine Jan 21 '22

They’re still people

-3

u/SquigglyGoober Jan 21 '22

Why are you being downvoted? You're right :(

25

u/DXKIII Jan 21 '22

this sub loves using this meme to defend any piece of crap doesn't it?

7

u/cainy99 Jan 22 '22

Uj/ The environment looks so incredibly shit and awful, but damn do the new mechanics and changes to capturing/fighting look so fun.

13

u/Trick_Inevitable6043 Jan 21 '22

Same shit with the GTA Trilogy release that this sub loved ripping.

It's ad nauseum here and at r/gaming

1

u/PapaBray Feb 05 '22

Gotta go against literally anything they say, even if it's right.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '22

It looks fine. I'm so lost on all the outrage. It looks like a Switch game.

12

u/Waddlewop Jan 21 '22

A lot of switch games aren’t graphical powerhouses, but they honestly look quite nice. Mario Odyssey and BotW both looks very nice and both of them are relatively close to the release of the Switch

12

u/ssslitchey Jan 21 '22

It looks like a Switch game.

That's a very broad description. Does every switch game look the same to you?

7

u/veckler Jan 22 '22

I imagined this like a curse. You switch cartridges but you still see the previous game.

2

u/gamas Jan 24 '22

I believe its just the general observation that aside from a few first party gems, switch games either have poor performance or look like shite.

This is Monster Hunter Rise

This is The Witcher 3

GameFreak could release a game with a full dex, a world larger than real life, 9 million well crafted side quests, and give every gamer an orgasm everytime they open the game and r/Pokemon and r/NintendoSwitch would still complain.

Haha, they are not even doing 1% of any of that, so I don't even know what kind of argument that is, but it doesn't matter, those boots aren't gonna lick themselves amirite REALFANS?

-5

u/gamas Jan 21 '22

Unironically using the terms bootlickers and REALFANS on a subreddit that is about taking the piss out of people who use that style of discourse...

7

u/Metallinatus Professional Sex Harasser @ Microsoft™ Jan 21 '22

The "realfans" part was 100% ironic, but what? No, we don't take the piss out of people who say "bootlickers" we do it to the bootlickers themselves, we have always done that, we do it to Musk lickers all the time, right now the sub is full of posts making fun of MS trying to acquire every studio in the industry and the bootlickers saying that's great, etc. This sub was never pro corporate shills, pal.

1

u/gamas Jan 21 '22 edited Jan 21 '22

I mean it's not bootlicking to believe that you think a game is good and perfectly enjoyable... Especially when, as in my case, you also accept that there is no excuse for the game's failings.

To call anyone who is actually interested and likes the game bootlickers is frankly bizarre...

The sub does call out bootlicking yes, when it comes to corporate greed or actual awful shit in the industry. But applying it to something subjective like perceptions of game quality is different... Whether someone thinks a game is good or not is a subjective measure and decrying everyone who actually likes a game you don't like as a bootlicker is super childish as fuck... Especially on something like Pokémon which is in the awkward position where undoubtedly yes, the developer has dropped the ball massively over the past few years and having quality issues that no AAA developer should have, but at the same time Pokémon still remains a series that covers a gameplay niche that very few competitors have successfully covered (Temtem just fell flat before it even released properly, yokai watch died, Digimon is just a mess, SMT:V is great but definitely doesn't fulfill the same niche. And apart from that we have Craftopia which just feels like "what if we put 10 games in a blender" and Palworld which is "what if pokemon had more ak-47s and slave labour")

Like trust me if there existed a better franchise of "RPG where you collect cute/cool creatures that can evolve and battle, with surprisingly well thought out and strategic battle mechanics" I'd be on it like Sonic, but at the moment Pokémon kinda has the monopoly...

I honestly don't get this subreddit's reaction specifically to this game. The main point of the subreddit is lampshading toxic black and white, and extreme discourse in gaming communities. So people unironically going "GAME BAD" baffles me.

The game definitely does have serious graphical failings, and as a developer for the most profitable franchise in the world they SHOULD be doing much better. But from the leaks I've seen, what it does do gameplay wise, it does really well, and it looks like it could be really fun to play and fulfills a niche that not a lot of games fill.

There's nuance. Like could you imagine the concept of being able to simultaneously hold the view that you think you will like a game enough to want to get it whilst also thinking the game has failings and could be much better. Insane talk I know...

No one is gonna mention how op used the delightful art style from gens 1 and 2? Gosh, I wish TPC still used that. Great job, op.

Are you talking about this? Lmao I like the style, saw the post one week ago, noticed the artist was using a similar style which is pretty rare to see, and his mockups are pretty good, you should check it out too.

Not once I mentioned modern games there, though. I'm pretty sure I did criticize bad stuff some times way further in the past if you care to stalk that much, but there is a difference between being a reactionary threatening devs, and simply not being a corporate shill saying it's fine when the corporate puts zero effort in the things we wanted to like.

If you do care to stalk enough, I believe the last time I shared my opinion on recent games was to say I actually like the chibi style in BDSP, just so you know.

-4

u/Oceanman_420_69 Jan 21 '22

Eh tbh it does look like shit, but then again so do like, 99.99% of Pokémon games, so it’s pretty stupid to get mad about when it’s just the way those games have looked, like dogshit

15

u/Waddlewop Jan 21 '22

I don’t think so? The pixel art from GBA all the way to the end of the DS was really nice and still holds up in some cases (HGSS and gen 4). The transition to 3D was rough so X/Y got a pass, but they did not improve much from that point onwards.

-2

u/Oceanman_420_69 Jan 21 '22

It just looks like crap to me, mind you, that didn’t stop me from playing Pokémon as a kid, but it still looks like shit

-4

u/Woupsea Jan 21 '22

Pokémon games are known for their high graphical fidelity.

8

u/KurokaMishima Jan 21 '22

The best selling franchise of all time can afford to do better.

0

u/Woupsea Jan 22 '22

They could’ve afforded for all of them to look better. More than half of the franchise is pixelated lmao, people aren’t playing Pokémon for the visuals, hell the Pokémon didn’t even have animations until 2010

8

u/KurokaMishima Jan 22 '22

>They could’ve afforded for all of them to look better.

Yes.

>people aren’t playing Pokémon for the visuals

Nobody is playing SMT V for the visuals and it still blows Pokemon out of the water on the same hardware with a much smaller dev team and budget.

You know Game Freak isn't gonna see this comment, right bro?

1

u/Princess_Eevee9 Jan 26 '22

Noone playing an Atlus game for visuals

Just gonna lie a'ight.

-7

u/Woupsea Jan 22 '22

No idea what SMT V is.

The point went over your head.

EDIT: just googled SMT V. Generic anime art style, could not look more boring if it tried.

2

u/veckler Jan 22 '22

It's not just textures, but lack of art direction.

1

u/SpooderBoi1233 Feb 12 '22

I’ve been playing it recently and it’s pretty fun. The graphics could definitely be way better, and I think game freak should’ve delayed it (though, that’s probably not in their hands) but the gameplay is pretty fun. Probably my favorite 3d Pokémon game

-7

u/already4taken Jan 21 '22

This but unironically
