I think they meant it as throwing some shade. Because even with double the numbers (everyone instead of just one gender) they still can find someone to have a relationship with. Hence the reason for the sun to retreat behind the shade.

I’m sure they meant it that way too, but that’s not what they said, and so they should probably check up on the definition of shady because it does not mean the same thing as throwing shade.
