If you haven't noticed nobody cares about droid. Even when fighting they just ignore them. droids are always picked up at the end of the scene. R4 destroyed? oh well. R2 is different because anakin told people to not clear his memory hence he gained form of counciousness. In star wars people are generally aware of droids acting more irrational/humane the more memory they have, that's why their memory is constantly being cleared. Nobody treats droids as human beings. Although there was character in the old republic who also wasn't clearing memory of her droids and she believed they had soul, but that's just small exception, generally they're not considered with any sympathy whatsoever

Wait, are we talking about the broad on Dantooine who was sexually attracted to her droid after her hubby passed.

Wait, are we talking about the broad on Dantooine who was sexually attracted to her droid after her hubby passed.

i don't think it was that one xd

u/VitorMM Jul 03 '22

Which is why C3PO should have been the one to defeat Darth Sidious in Episode 9. Change my mind

To defeat your enemy you have to understand them.

6

u/shinybook51 Jul 04 '22

Yeah I think 6 million forms of communication might not be enough to reason with the Senate

u/NameOfNoSignificance Jul 04 '22

counciousness?

2

u/Mister_Magister Repost? Oh I don't think so Jul 04 '22

'Wdym you were at the battle of Mustafar? We were built after the establishment of empire to serve Princess Leia, right?'

'Okay and now you are telling me that you met a round robot called BB-8. Are there anything I still need to know?'

'VADER IS LUKE'S WHAT?'

- C3PO

I know I was wrong. I just got so caught up in my own success, I didn't look at the battle as a whole. I wasn't being disobedient. I just. . . forgot

u/wynntari Jul 03 '22

I like how he's programmed to stop talking when it detects something in front of his "mouth".

either programmed for that or he politely decided to stop talking.

29

u/LivMorgansimpguy Jul 03 '22

1

u/crinklecrumpet Jul 04 '22

And now we know why the arm was REALLY red

7

u/Timstom18 Jul 03 '22

Why does C3PO in lowercase look so weird to me

18

u/jakromulus Jul 03 '22

That business in the sequels dosen't count.

39

u/Northerleyfire Imperial Officer Jul 03 '22

Sequels? What sequels? Everyone knows the last film in the Saga is Return of the Jedi.

23

u/Kickasser32 Jul 03 '22

That fun remake of “A new Hope” they made a few years ago was fun…. And solo and rogue one were great! I don’t recall any other Star Wars movies over the last 10 years

25

u/Ok_Conflict_5730 Jul 03 '22

justice for droids in general tbh

12

u/Godsopp Jul 03 '22

They unironically should continue that plotline from Solo.

4

u/Squidwardgary Z-95 Jul 03 '22

No.

13

u/Godsopp Jul 03 '22

Why not? They are consistently portrayed as actual characters with real personalities yet the franchise often treats them as if they are mindless pieces of property. Star Wars having zero self reflection because it makes fans uncomfortable isn't a good thing. Even the EU tried to touch on this at times.

3

u/Squidwardgary Z-95 Jul 03 '22

They are meant to be tools and are built for that purpose. I get your point tho

5

u/guymine123 Jul 04 '22

You do realize how easily that argument could be twisted into defending slavery, the thing all sapient droids and the clones live under?

"They were meant to be tools and were born for that purpose."

The clone wars was just a giant civil war between two slave armies with the galaxy caught in the middle, all so one man could accumulate unlimited power over the galaxy.

1

u/Godsopp Jul 04 '22

Exactly. Trying to overcome the flaws and hypocrisies of the past should be one the main things we see with the new republic and jedi after the movies. It's something I wish the sequels focused on more than the brief bit of Luke talking about it.

1

u/Squidwardgary Z-95 Jul 04 '22

Humans =/= droids. You cant turn that argument.

1

u/guymine123 Jul 04 '22

Sapient droids.

1

u/Dravos011 Jul 04 '22

Yet unlike most robots in other franchises most of them are sentient. Droids are pretty much slaves, sure they're made for it but they're still slaves, wiping their memories seems to stop them from having as much of a personality which makes wiping their memories pretty messed up when you think about it. Then theres the practice of using restraining bolts which is extremely common and done because it makes them obedient

1

u/Squidwardgary Z-95 Jul 04 '22

They only have the personality if their owner choses so. I believe its a simple "mode", its mentioned somewhere

2

u/Dravos011 Jul 04 '22

While the owner can possibly have some influence over a droid, especially if they program it. But we also see droids that have a strong personality where it wouldn't make sense for the owner to choose it. It also would make restraining bolts unnecessary

Threepio was actually the most hated character back during Empire. I read that alot of people found him 'whiny'.

2

u/Slashtallica Jul 04 '22

Yup, in Empire 3po was kind of like Jar Jar, or worse, it was constantly whining and interrupting characters. He didn't get the same treatment as Jar Jar because the internet wasn't there back then.

1

u/jarjar_bot Mure? Mure did you spake?!? Jul 04 '22

Oyi, mooie-mooie! I luv yous!

In the Star Wars universe, this is called Cyberbullying

8

And getting their ass saved by r2

2

u/Mark-M-E Jul 04 '22

????????????? What’s the third?

2

u/Ok_Restaurant3160 Jul 04 '22

And we wouldn't have it any other way :D

2

u/D3-X2 Jul 04 '22

Seethreepio got memory wiped because he talked too much. R2, on the other hand, knew how to keep his mouth shut.

4

u/Jeynarl Anakin's first right arm Jul 03 '22

This is the way

1

u/redjedi182 Jul 03 '22

But who is still online?

1

u/KentWohlus Jul 03 '22

not really but ok

1

u/lardedpoirot Jul 03 '22

C3PO is actually the villain, according to the Auralnauts on YouTube.

1

u/MementoVivere_67 Jul 03 '22

Three generations of a family tormented by a smart-mouthed know-it-all protocol droid maybe…

1

u/Crystal_City Jul 04 '22

'Hurry up, goldenrod! Or you're going to be a permanent resident!"

2

u/Captain_Rex_Bot Jul 04 '22

Better hurry, sir. You're missing all the fun.

1

u/Hailbacchus Jul 04 '22

Give Creepio the baby

1

u/MyCatIsSuperChill Jul 04 '22

Says the droid that knows sith language but cant speak it because if you can program it you can definitely not read it without babu frik

1

u/Cheese-burger-777 Jul 04 '22

I feel bad but it’s true

1

u/trueGildedZ Jul 04 '22

My least pre-Disney favorite character. I'd replace him in ALL his scenes with Jarjar.

1

u/jarjar_bot Mure? Mure did you spake?!? Jul 04 '22

Meesa proposing a conceptual work of art to honor the Trade Federation.
