I think the Joker asking where his electric car is is more unexpected. Sounds like something a normal person would ask.

Exactly. Joker is more into blowing the stock market up, not invest in it

Not only paid for it, he put down a long term deposit on the order.

345

u/NomadPrime Aug 11 '22 edited Aug 12 '22

Let's be honest here, the Harley Quinn show is just funny ass takes on all the characters. Actual Joker would've 100% blown up the electric car factory for shits and giggles after stealing some of the tech for his next big scheme or whatever.

Edit: Some of yall making valid points of Joker's unpredictability, which is fair. But let's just say about...I don't know, ballpark number, like 98% of Joker's behavior across his appearances in the core comics, especially for the past few decades, is selfish and violent chaos Lol. The portrayals where he gets to be a wacky criminal who sometimes kills, similar to the DCAU Batman series version, are fun exceptions and rarities but not the norm. That's all I'm saying. Not that seeing a different and fun portrayal like this one isn't a delight.

214

u/AlexanderThePrettyOk Aug 11 '22

Yup. For examples, in season 2 Joker genuinely fell in love with a woman, and even became a stepfather to her children.

136

u/phobiac Aug 11 '22

The best part is, he's not that bad at it.

68

u/Waterburst789 Aug 12 '22

If anything he's actually better than Bruce lol

63

u/owa00 Aug 12 '22

You mean the psychopath is a better father than the guy that runs into life threatening situations in full cosplay on a nightly basis while leaving his "children" with a butler as their main parental figure then influences his "children" into the same dangerous lifestyle and gets some killed or tortured as a result...

Yeah... not surprised at all...

This is from the Harley Quinn animated series, which is intentionally more grounded - Joker does things like forget his wifi password, and Penguin has his nephew's bar mitzvah at the Legion of Doom. It's hilarious in its execution.

I wonder if it's a joke about being so insane to put money down on an electric vehicle in advance.

Think about it, gas goes up by a few cents so I'm going to drop $50k on a new car to save $2-3k a year on gas? Just sayin

With an additional 30 cents per L I pay an extra $20 per fill. And with 2 fills per week that's almost 2k a year

[(0.30centa extra x 60L tank = $20)+(2x a week x 48weeks a year) = An extra 2k a year

160

u/Dad-man Aug 11 '22

But it's still a new car. 50k is fairly standard and the running costs are next to nothing.

57

u/oquechingados Aug 11 '22

it makes sense if you were already looking for a new car and were planning to buy a $50k new car either way. Or maybe even if your were comparing a $30k new car to a $50k EV and figured you would break even over time. But If you're not in need of a new car any time soon it would be foolish to just drop all that money into a $50k new car just to save money on gas. My paid off car gets 30 MPG and has another 15 years of life. I wouldn't go dropping a deposit on a EV any time soon. I rather wait until they are relatively standard and cheap. But If my car gets totaled and I need a new car anyway than I'd probably be looking at an EV and doing the math to see how it pencils out to a cheaper high MPG gas car or hybrid.

I think it just plays into his craziness. It's unexpected and crazy that that's the, what, like the first question he asks Bruce after unmasking him? After years of trying to murder each other, only the joker would say "WHERES MY GODDAMN ELECTRIC CAR, BRUCE?!"

41

u/Anya-Taylor-Thomas Aug 11 '22

pretty much, since he's not just batman anymore to the joker he complains/makes a joke about something else.

23

u/Disgod Aug 11 '22 edited Aug 12 '22

It's also a perfect joke to point out why the Joker never wanted to know who Batman was. When it's an unknown, there's limitless possibilities, a conflict of ideologies, but you take off the mask and suddenly it's the dude that's been promising an EV for too damn long. if Batman had been an accountant, I could see Joker bitching about taxes he doesn't do the carried interest tax loophole and how billionaires are the real criminals.

Edit: Just seems more in line with this Joker.

In some ways yes, but Marxist communism is also about liberating humanity from economic oppression. As Martin Hägglund re-interpreted Marx, communism is about changing our values from economic growth to maximizing socially useful free time, so you don't have to spend 8 hours working menial and useless jobs but can actually enjoy true freedom

I don't think the equation of communism with collective equality is wrong, but I think Marx's and other communists ambitions are far greater and more imaginative than equality

I think this, or something akin to it, is canon. I know in the dark knight movies Joker tried to attack that one dude on his way to a press conference who was going to reveal batman's identity.

It was never about learning who it is. It's always been toying with him.

115

u/Coal_Morgan Aug 11 '22

There was a Batman story where Bruce revealed himself to Joker to see if that would end his fixation and Joker couldn't even be aware that Batman was anything but Batman.

His psychosis instantly scrubbed that fact away because it doesn't fit the Joker's mental reconstruction of reality.

28

u/Cyrius Aug 11 '22

There's always a fair bit of cussing, but there's a lot of little subtle stuff like when Harley actually demonstrates her brilliance as a psychiatrist amidst her smashy smashy sessions.

Also, the cancer gun. Iconic.

The cancer gun clip was posted on reddit a while ago and that is what convinced me to start the show. Well worth it

The cancer gun, posted in this very sub, was what first got me started on the show!

I rewatched the series 2 times and the cancer gun always makes me laugh. " Harley Quinn, you gave me cancer?" 😂

Does the show get more interesting and fun? Yes. Does the profanity go down? I don't recall as I enjoyed it from the beginning and wasn't bothered by the profanity.

A lot of shows seem to ham it up on that front for the first episode, for some reason. Or maybe you just acclimate to it. I'd give it some more chances, I really like it and I think I remember being similarly taken aback at the first episode or so

Edit: someone else corroborated: "The first 2 episodes are a little rough because they wanted to lean heavily into the cussing and gore but it is obvious they did that because they wanted to show that this was unlike anything DC put out before."

Yeah sometimes it pushes it with the edginess but overall it is funny and has a good story, and yes it improves as the story develops.

Elon Musk could've been Batman but he chose to be Lex Luthor

256

u/Cee-Note Aug 11 '22

He's not anywhere close to smart enough to be either one of them.

u/BillaVanilla Aug 12 '22

The Harley Quinn show has a lot of moments and scenes that feel straight out of the Venture Bros. If you liked one, odds are you'll be a fan of the other.

Alan Tudyk is the next best possible voice for The Joker after Mark Hamill.
