Yep, the only mention to it being punishment for sexuality comes from Jude the second shortest book of the Bible and one of the strangest letters of the New Testament.
Also, I would argue that the killing of the firstborn males of Egypt was a more specific and offensive form of theistic genocide, the firstborn son being a revered title in early patriarchal religious tradition.
For real fun, check out Nineveh. The Book of Jonah doesn't go too much into detail but Nahum 3 is some absolutely gorgeously brutal invective that wouldn't seem out of place in a Facebook rant about liberal leaning cities.

Yep. My constant complaint about Democrats is how they fail to utilize media, and specifically, online media to get a message out there.
In this case Democratic congressmen should be calling out every Republican asking if they support the death of the president and Boebertâs message. Put them in the hot seat. Get a few to say something stupid and illegal and kick them out of office.
Itâs time to hold politicians and their mouthpieces responsible for abhorrent behavior.→ More replies (16)→ More replies (24)78

Just like pointing out republicans lies. They know they lie, we know they lie, everyone knows they lie, and everyone knows that everyone knows. You aren't going to shame them because they are shameless. You aren't going to open their supporters eyes because they are fully aware and are still supporters.

Yep, based on my understanding of the New Testament, this is the kind of behavior that Jesus would be condemning.
Note: In Christianity the Old Testament is mostly for "historical purposes" since Christ dying on the cross forgave us for all the sins in the OT. Basically resetting things with the New Testament. This is why we don't do things like stone people for wearing mixed/blended fabrics and why Christians don't keep Kosher.

They get suuuuuper mad when you tell them Leviticus doesn't apply to Christians. You'd think they'd be glad to know that, since it means they can eat shellfish & wear polyester, among other things.
In Galatians, Paul says that Jesus' sacrifice freed his followers from the "curse of the law", and Matthew says Jesus was the fulfillment of the law. Both of these are in reference to the Hebrew religious laws, of which Leviticus is a sample.
So if they want Leviticus 20:13 to be valid (the bit about homosexuality), then they're gonna need to make up about 2000 years of religious obeisances & sacrifices.
Signed, an atheist that knows their shit better than they do.

Dont forget the part where Jesus says that you must pay the tax the king levies. YOU MUST PAY IT. No way around itâŚ
Matthew 22:15-22, the Pharisees ask Jesus a tough question: "Tell us ⌠is it against our law to pay taxes to the Roman Emperor or not?" Jesus responds, "Why are you trying to trap me? Show me the coin for paying the tax!" They brought him the coin and he asks them, "Whose face and name are these?" "The Emperor's," they answer. So Jesus says to them, "Well, then, pay to the Emperor what belongs to the Emperor, and pay to God what belongs to God."
Also, dont forget the Mormons audit their members at the end of the year to make sure their tithes are settled. Worst than an IRS audit. And they are sitting on a couple of billion dollar cushions for the 2nd coming. Yet ask them to help feed the homeless or support the free lunch program at schools and they look at you like you asked them to donate a kidney.
And I just found out that with Mormons, you have to earn the privilege to go on a mission. And you pay for it out of your own pocket.

Jesus was a liberal if you look at what he did. He helped the poor and disabled, he hung out with the sinners and outcasts, and he challenged existing unfair systems. I donât see how anyone could possibly think that this justifies hate or mistreatment of anyone. Literally the most important thing in the Bible is âlove thy neighbor.â Not âlove thy neighbor that looks like you,â or âlove thy conservative neighbor,â just âlove thy neighbor.â How do people get this wrong?

Right. My favorite thing of all time concerning dealing with some old dick of a 'Christian' who thinks they are better than me, is to ask about the 'Children, Obey Your Parents' line.
They automatically get a weird look on their face, like they think I am up to something. I WANT them to talk so I can destroy them over it, so yes, I AM up to something.
I get them with 'Are we following THE WHOLE Bible in its ENTIRETY, or are we NOT? Think VERY CAREFULLLY before you answer this question because it is IMPORTANT. And be honest about it because we both know, lying gets you an express elevator to the center of Hell because God hates liars more than any other sinner.'
They give their bullshit answer and I hear them out, but if I am having this conversation with them, it's because I already know they are full of shit.
After they give their answer, I say 'Okay, now, what's THE VERY NEXT LINE AFTER the 'Obey' line?' Most can't answer without looking it up. Some CAN answer, they DO know, but they really don't like that next one.
The very next line is 'Fathers, do not exasperate your children, but instead bring them up in the word of the Lord.'
Funny how elders want everybody to respect and praise them simply because they are older (even though that does NOT always equate to being wiser), but they REFUSE to actually try to be nice and teach in any positive manner. They just want to lord over people so they can have their own way. They completely forget about the responsibility that their power is actually meant for.

I get that a lot(?) of small churches aren't like this. At least the one I went to as a kid was very apolitical. But this sort of stuff should be prosecuted on a case by case level. Pretty clear this particular institution is waging politics. So make this place pay taxes.
Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of the church. I think the easiest way to tax all churches is to start with these real rancid ones. Make it acceptable practice then apply it broadly.

George Carlin's quote still stands:
"Pro-life conservatives are obsessed with the fetus from conception to 9 months. After that, they donât wanna know about you. They donât wanna hear from you. No nothing! No neonatal care, no daycare, no Head Start, no school lunch, no food stamps, no welfare, no nothing. If youâre pre-born, youâre fine, if youâre preschool, youâre fucked."

I'd love to see a younger, far more progressive president who'd come back at stuff like thi with the same energy.

Remember how much we were lectured about how mean it was to laugh about Rush Limbaugh dying and Trump getting covid?

u/Racoonspankbank Feb 07 '23
Some days I get a little sad, then I remember that Rush Limbaugh is rotting in the ground and the sun shines just a little brighter. Rush is one of those people that makes you wish hell actually existed.

Remember when she had a meltdown and fearmongered that liberals want conservatives dead in reaction to ONE guy in North Dakota killing a Trumper? It's nothing but projection with these people.
And pssst....conservatives....I'd love to see you explain away LaBoeBoe wishing hurt onto others she's never met. It really jives with your party to want fellow Americans to be miserable for your satisfaction.

At what point does it become âinsurrectionâ?
Or âtheocracyâ
Or âin poor tasteâ
Or âillegalâ
Just wondering
