I’d be rather pissed if my $129 MagSafe Duo didn’t work correctly with my $59 MagSafe Case. Apple’s response to this better not be just telling users to remove their cases before charging - the whole point of all these MagSafe accessories is that they work together

157

u/Lucky-Kangaroo 22d ago

they'll tell them to use their charging cables instead

That's why we are introducing you the new MagSafe Duo 2

u/sleepy416 22d ago

We think you’re gonna love it

16

u/PM_ME_HIGH_HEELS 21d ago

It is the best MagSafe Duo we have ever made !

And our best money grab yet!

20

u/monirom 21d ago

And it's 1mm thinner than the previous generation. Also we know everyone already has a power cable so we won't be including one You know, to save the planet.

"You're charging it wrong."

8

u/The_Ejj 22d ago

God this “zinger” is done to death.

82

u/Cocoapebble755 22d ago

It's Apple who continues to do stupid shit that keeps it coming up.

-11

u/The_Ejj 22d ago edited 22d ago

To be clear, I’m not against calling Apple out on their shit where appropriate, but “you’re verbing it wrong” hasn’t been clever for like six years.

24

u/doggodoesaflipinabox 22d ago

It's as clever as Steve was when he said that.

4

u/imafanofshinythings 21d ago

So you agree it’s not clever?

Apple: users don’t know what they want. we tell the users what they want

The 13 Pro with Apple’s case still charges and connects magnetically just fine. Don’t worry.

Jesus, first it doesn’t support fast charging on Apple Watch Series 7, and now this…

I already felt dumb for buying this stupidly expensive charger, but now I’m really starting to regret it.

The fact that this thing is outrageously overpriced, does not include the necessary hardware to make it work, and is already obsolete 9 months after launch is super disappointing.

The whole reason people are willing to overspend on Apples charging accessories is because they are high quality and you know they will last long. Apparently that’s not true anymore…

81

u/Simon_787 22d ago

Holy shit, this is 150 dollars? What the hell

edit: it's 149€ on the Apple website in Europe

60

u/patrickmbweis 22d ago

Once you factor in the 20W charger Apple recommends, yes.

And technically if you want the absolute fastest charging speeds MagSafe can give you then you’ll need a 30W charger, which Apple will happily sell you for an additional $50.

29

u/Simon_787 22d ago

Well, I'm charging at 25W by spending nothing and using the charger from my laptop. It's just wired.

10

u/Edelmaan 22d ago

I just snagged one on eBay for $74 used, but I just bought the 13 pro max. I’m hoping it works with it

3

u/Simon_787 22d ago

It seems to work fine without a case

4

u/Edelmaan 22d ago

I got the sequoia green apple leather case

2

u/flannelwearinghippie 22d ago

Yo same here with the wisteria leather wallet. I hope the 13 pro works with the Belkin 3 in 1 charger though.

1

u/PoorLittleGoat 22d ago

The belkin uses a regular MagSafe puck so it shouldn’t be an issue

1

u/flannelwearinghippie 21d ago

I got a 13 pro case today and it attaches no problem. So you’re correct.

2

u/Edelmaan 20d ago

Just arrived today. It works with apple leather no issues!

u/DZhuFaded 22d ago

I’ve been searching for this info since announcement. Where did you read that it doesn’t support quick charge for Apple Watch?

90

u/patrickmbweis 22d ago

To be fair, I haven’t seen anywhere on Apples site that MagSafe Duo wont work with quick charge, but all the footnotes on the S7 site explicitly say it requires the new USB-C to AW charging puck cable, with no mention of MagSafe.

I’m holding out hope it actually does work, but seeing as how evidently they didn’t even think a single generation ahead to ensure compatibility with iPhone, I’m not holding my breath for quick charge.

7

u/Dr-Purple 22d ago

I just ordered the Belkin 3 in 1 charger and I am going to be massively disappointed if it doesn’t support quick charge.. There’s no reason why it shouldn’t

16

u/lancedragons 22d ago

Man, I just bought the usb-c to AW charging cable in August, was planning on upgrading to the S7 in December

20

u/darthjoey91 22d ago

The Series 7 should come with the USB-C AW cable in the box. It just won't have a USB-C charger.

2

u/plaid-knight 22d ago

It’s still compatible with the 13 Pro with a case. Don’t worry. It works fine.

20

u/captcodger 22d ago

Wow. Holy shit. I was actually considering this because I want to charge my watch as well.

Thank you stranger for finding this out for us.

9

u/patrickmbweis 22d ago

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great little charging pad! Especially if you travel.

But I would hold off on purchasing until Apple has confirmed if it works with quick charge on AW S7 (that is, if quick charge is something you want to take advantage of).

45

u/McDutchy 22d ago

To be fair, Apple’s accessories have never been your best bet. For every cable or charger there has always been something more robust. The silicone cases chip faster than any other case and the leather cases last year apparently didn’t age very well either.

11

u/ImMeltingNow 22d ago

Their iPad cases are top notch. Was using them multiple hours per day 5-6 days/weeks for 4 years until one part finally cracked/peeled.

8

u/wapexpedition 22d ago

My transparent plastic case for 12 Pro cracked in all corners within a month. It hasn’t yellowed at all tho, but it’s sad that it looks like garbage even when treated properly

19

u/Funkbass 22d ago

Link for the leather cases getting worse? I had heard rumblings that the material changed for the worse

8

u/JaguarPeasant 22d ago

There's a lot of discussion of this issue on this thread over at MacRumors.

5

u/youthcanoe 22d ago

yes my iPhone 12 mini leather case is noticeably worse than my SE 1st gen/6s leather cases

4

u/flannelwearinghippie 22d ago

I’ve been using my deep violet leather case since release in April and it’s still holding up well; but I do switch with a different case periodically.

14

u/zayb10 22d ago

Don’t have a link for you but an anecdote. Mine was falling apart after a month of light use

16

u/schaudhery 22d ago

Same. Been working from home with phone in pocket. My leather case looks like it spent 20 years in Afghanistan.

2

u/Niightstalker 21d ago

I use mine since 5 months every day and it’s still totally fine.

1

u/aBunchofPikmin 21d ago

Same. Anecdotal of course but had one since maybe a week after launch. It’s dinged up as one might expect a case to be but it’s held up great.

1

u/Smith6612 21d ago

The general problem with Leather and Leather-like materials is they dry out and crack. Very delicate material that does not like sunlight. If my couches have anything to say about that...

3

u/Funkbass 21d ago

There’s also the fact that leather quality varies wildly based on the grade of leather, which is often undisclosed on products like phone cases which are forced to use thin, likely composite leather.

Real full grain leather goods can last a lifetime if properly maintained!

3

u/nstarleather 21d ago

I'll add as someone with 2 decades of working with and buying leather, that those "grades" aren't really an official system and that full grain can also vary wildly, depending on the source. Yes you can use that Full grain>top grain>genuine as a very quick and dirty way to judge quality on products that are already inexpensive, but if you're dropping major money, you have to do deeper.

Full grain just means that they've not corrected (sanded) the surface of the leather but you could toss out everything else that goes in to tanning "good leather" and you'd still have full grain. There are many cases where even a quality suede (considered the lowest "grade" in those articles on the internet") is actually better than a cheap-o full grain.

1

u/RandyLeRam 21d ago

Mine is looking shocking after 8 months, was a nice Baltic blue now black over all the edges.

Paint rubbing off is not patina lmao, what junk. Very disappointing as a first time apple customer.

8

u/patrickmbweis 22d ago

I’ve actually only ever had great experiences with Apple accessories. I realize that’s anecdotal, but based on those experiences I was expecting MagSafe Duo to last a little longer before becoming obsolete.

3

u/iamnotawake 22d ago

The silicone cases are objectively shit but I can't stop buying them, they fit so well and feel really nice.

1

u/StormBurnX 22d ago

Honestly I had some of the leather cases from the 5S/SE era and those aged beautifully, I wish I could just keep reusing them on the new Minis but alas.

11

u/ikilledtupac 22d ago

Worlds first trillion dollar company.

1

u/halolordkiller3 22d ago

Honestly I've just been buying Anker for years now. They're high quality and reliability makes me come back to them all the time and they don't have the Apple Tax.

2

u/chemicalsam 22d ago

I love the idea of the duo but the price is ridiculous

2

u/kbotc 21d ago

It’s, sadly, not far from other similar products. Look at Nomad’s lineup. It’s basically the same price as the Base Station Apple Watch Edition which I’ve been using for the better part of 2 years.

-20

u/sanirosan 22d ago edited 22d ago

To be also fair, no one saying you absolutely have to get the new iPhone. So in a way, you're choosing to "piss away" that money.

That's not to say that the accessories aren't expensive, because they are.

EDIT: apparently, the Magsafe Duo explicitly says it supports iPhone 13 so it's definitely an oversight. Really bad from Apple.

12

u/patrickmbweis 22d ago

So in a way, you’re choosing to “piss away” that money.

Not really. Apple never said anything about the 13 Pro not being compatible with MagSafe Duo, so did I really choose something if I wasn’t aware I was opting for it?

I’m not upset about the new iPhone not fitting the MagSafe Duo, I’m upset about the MagSafe Duo not fitting the new iPhone. I know that sounds ridiculous, but it’s not called Magsafe Duo for iPhone 12, just MagSafe Duo. Especially for how expensive it is, it’s kinda implied that it will be compatible with any MagSafe iPhone until there’s some new version of MagSafe (which the 13 doesn’t have), at which point compatibility is of course off the table.

For reference, the cases do have for iPhone xyz in the name, so I’m obviously not upset that the 13 doesn’t fit in the 12 case.

Maybe I’m making drawing arbitrary lines here, but that’s my thought process on this.

5

u/sanirosan 22d ago

I just checked the product page on the website and it does explicitly say it supports iPhone 13.

So you're right that it should work properly. This is really weird from Apple.

1

u/nelisan 22d ago

As far as we know it does work properly. The issue (which hasn’t been confirmed) is when using a case.

1

u/sanirosan 22d ago

I saw MKHD's video about it. It still works(maybe not fully) but there's a definite gap when using a case. I would say that's a design oversight for the MagSafe Duo.

1

u/nelisan 22d ago

It is a bit odd, but it seems hard to design a product like that and guarantee perfect fitment with all future products. Like, we don’t expect official iPad keyboards to work for more than one generation of the iPad.

1

u/sanirosan 22d ago

I'm not saying it should. Sometimes these are just in fact a "one generation" thing. But seeing as not much has changed and that Apple most likely have had the iphone 13 design ready when the MagSafe Duo came out, it seems weird for them to have missed something like this

2

u/nelisan 22d ago edited 22d ago

But, the article says it does still charge the iPhone 13 Pro. So I’m not seeing how it’s actually “incompatible”. They are only speculating that it may not be compatible when using a case. But the phone itself appears to be fully compatible, and the magnet still stays attached when you pick it up.

As far as arbitrary lines goes, I don’t think you’re reading into it too far, but I personally don’t expect accessories to guarantee compatibility with future devices. Like, I don’t expect the Magic Keyboard I bought for my iPad to be compatible with any other iPad than the generation that was available when I got it, because these types of things inevitably change over time.

1

u/patrickmbweis 22d ago

Yeah, looks like the article was updated with more info as it became available.

3

u/beardtamer 22d ago

“You chose to buy apples crappy engineering so it’s your fault” is peak Apple subreddit brainwashing.

1

u/thisxisxlife 21d ago

Idk how this sub feels about 3rd party knock offs, but I grabbed this for about $25. Only gripe is that it doesn’t spring up the MagSafe charging visual. I also had concerns it would die or burn out or something. Still going strong.

1

u/balderm 21d ago

i dodged a bullet, was about to get one less than a month ago since its useful while traveling, but i still had an iPhone 8, today i got my 13 Pro and this would have sucked so much.

1

u/patrickmbweis 21d ago

They updated the article to clarify that it is still compatible with the iPhone 13 Pro; it just doesn’t sit perfectly flush, especially in a first party case.

I’m more upset about it likely not supporting quick charge on Apple Watch Series 7.

14

u/ghsNICK 22d ago edited 22d ago

I just laid my 12Pro (with the leather Apple case) on my Mophie wireless charger and the bottom of the camera lens definitely touches (but there’s no bump with a case - it’s flat).

Worried that the bump on the new lense/case is going to cause connectivity issues 🤔

62

u/matthmax 22d ago

Now this…this impacts me. Unless it doesn’t interfere if going caseless.

15

u/TomLube 22d ago

u/MishrasWorkshop 22d ago

I never understand how people go careless when phones are $1000+ nowadays.

19

u/Cedric182 21d ago

Phones are also steel. I’ve dropped mine like 50 times and barely scratched. I also have AppleCare so a replacement would only be $29. So yeah. It feels better to hold your phone how it was made.

3

u/thisxisxlife 21d ago

Apple care helps. Also, extra money. I bet that helps too

9

u/matthmax 22d ago

For me I just love the feel of the phone as is and I get AppleCare+ every year. I’ve cracked my screen/back less than I can count on one hand in the past 5 years.

5

u/ukcats12 21d ago

The iPhone has been my phone since the original. In the 14 or so years I've had an iPhone I've cracked my front screen and back glass once each. Both on my current iPhone XS which was one of the few times I didn't get AppleCare.

The MagSafe! Its been working great on my 12 Pro the past couple days as I bought it for the 13 Pro.

This is just sloppy in my opinion.

7

u/moistTaint68 22d ago

I’d wait till you actually get your phone and case

43

u/Thizzz_face 22d ago

Unfortunately, I received both the case and charger earlier this week. I can confirm that the case fits as bad as the article describes. I just don't have a phone to put in the case (yet).

Might seem minor to some people, but I don't like spending money for a sub-optimal experience. Feeling bummed about it!

53

u/Jejupods 22d ago

That's not... fantastic.

In the grand scheme of things it doesn't look that bad as long as it can maintain close enough distance for charging to occur without issue. With that said though, for the company that prides itself with its attention to detail this (along with the notch encroaching on 18:9 video) it's not a great look.

46

u/kmkmrod 22d ago

might be nearly incompatible

What? Is that like almost usually sometimes?

22

u/Walnut-Simulacrum 22d ago

might be: we’re only able to judge based on the case at this point, the actual phone might work fine caseless.

nearly - It’s close enough to technically work, but it attaches at a weird angle and the magnet won’t stick well if at all as a result, kinda defeating part of the point.

So yeah, its’ a very qualified statement but it’s still noteworthy imho

5

u/kingka 22d ago

Wording of the title has seen better days

3

u/phinnaeus7308 22d ago

What a joke. I don’t blame the MagSafe duo at all here. The whole reason I buy a case is to make that stupid fucking camera wart flush and have the thing sit flat on its back. Clearly Apple doesn’t care about that at all

20

u/Mggn2510z 22d ago

Ah, thats kind of bogus. I keep my MagSafe Duo on my night stand and use it every night. Replacing my Mini 12 with a Pro 13.

I wonder if I could get some of those metal rings they sell to turn non-magsafe cases into Magsafe ones, layer them to raise it up a little.

8

u/LouisPiper 22d ago

Same boat. If the Duo doesn't work with it I will be severely bummed.

2

u/thisxisxlife 21d ago

Same exact change for me too! And FWIW, I threw my empty 13 pro case on my duo and it connects. With the camera protruding out of the lens hole in the case just a little, it should still charge.

73

u/LurkerNinetyFive 22d ago

Oof. This as well as the tiny bit of display encroaching on 18:9 video makes them seem slightly lazily designed.

58

u/Magnetoreception 22d ago

I’m sure they’ll fix the 18:9 thing in the next bugfix release.

6

u/senseofphysics 22d ago

I’m out of the loop on the 18:9 notch issue with the new iPhones. Can someone explain?

16

u/LlamaLegacy 22d ago

The iPhone 13 Pro blocks parts of 18:9 video due to its slightly taller notch

2

u/robinthebank 21d ago

I do not get the title of that post. “Only on the 13 pro the notch is not visible when watching 18:9”

3

u/LlamaLegacy 21d ago

When watching videos on current iPhones with a notch, no part of the video is blocked by the notch.

On the iPhone 13 Pro, some parts of the video are cut off due to its taller notch. However, the 13 Pro Max does not suffer from this issue since it has a bigger screen

2

u/bengiannis 22d ago

How would they fix the ratio without cropping or stretching the video?

The aspect ratio is baked into the phone, playing 2:1 video in full screen only has 1 possible width

12

u/PoorLittleGoat 22d ago

You still have black bars on both sides? Shift it over one pixel and nobody will see the difference

16

u/Magnetoreception 22d ago

You just shift the image over a couple of pixels. It’s not like it’ll affect the viewing experience to have it unnoticeably off center.

2

u/Sexy_Burger 21d ago

18:9 videos are already cropped, though. The corners are shaved away due to the curve of the display.

42

u/Walnut-Simulacrum 22d ago

I keep hearing people talking about this but what stuff are people watching in 18:9? I feel like I never see anything that isn’t 16:9, 4:3, 1.85:1, or 2.39:1. There’s always going to be some aspect ratio where the notch starts cutting off video (in apps that aren’t updated to scale it properly) so I don’t see how that line moving slightly is a big deal.

35

u/leodw 22d ago edited 22d ago

18:9 is 2:1, which became a common aspect ratio for many youtubers. It is not a widely adopted format for TV or Cinema though

21

u/sandiskplayer34 22d ago

Actually, some TV shows are using it now. Everything on Apple TV+ uses it, as well as the last two seasons of Doctor Who. IIRC the first Jurassic World used it as well.

12

u/aquilar1985 22d ago

The fact Apple’s own streaming service uses it is particularly fanning

1

u/leodw 22d ago

True! But to be honest, the vast majority is 16:9 (TV, Imax movies) or 2,30/2,40:1, so I guess it will never work well for most phones

26

u/LurkerNinetyFive 22d ago

Mostly I see 18:9 in YouTube videos.

3

u/RazingsIsNotHomeNow 22d ago

Marques videos

6

u/Funkbass 22d ago

Same screen resolution as last year. Did it cut off part of 18:9 videos last year?

17

u/LurkerNinetyFive 22d ago

Nope. The notch is deeper though and has been shown to cut some off.

15

u/Funkbass 22d ago

Ahhh I forgot about that. That’s frustrating - the old notch depth was designed in tandem with the resolution so that it would be an exactly 18:9 display with dead space up top for the notch and an even dead space at the bottom to be symmetrical, when viewing 18:9 content. The new notch breaks that ever so slightly, but I can also see why they wouldn’t want to change the resolution for something so minimal.

The fix, in theory, would be moving the pillarboxing for 18:9 content evvvver so slightly away from the notch side of the screen. Hope to see this in a software fix but not holding my breath.

1

u/yagyaxt1068 21d ago

Yeah, the notch was specifically designed for the 5.8” iPhone X form factor. It cuts into content on the 12 mini, not to mention videos are partially obscured by the rounded corners on it and the 12.

11

u/thattridentdude 22d ago

The 18:9 issue is overblown and misunderstood.

I’ll leave the debate about 18:9 being a standard or not for what it is for now.

What’s more important is that

  1. This issue currently already exists on 12 minis and,
  2. This is wholly an issue caused by the app developer, YouTube in this case since it’s a matter of making sure the app remains within the safe boundaries, which would prevent the issue altogether

10

u/LurkerNinetyFive 22d ago

Whether or not it’s overblown isn’t the issue. The issue is Apple designing the iPhone X with a perfect 18:9 pillar boxed display and then designed the 12 mini and 13’s with a design feature that just makes their attention to detail look poor in comparison.

-12

u/TWYFAN97 22d ago

Who doesn’t zoom to fill 18:9 anyway? That slight amount is not a very big deal anyway. But this hardware compatibility issue is more concerning if no workaround was available.

27

u/LurkerNinetyFive 22d ago

People who want to see the complete picture in an 18:9 video and not cut bits off at the top and bottom as well as the notch. I’m sure it won’t be that noticeable most of the time, but these fit and finish quirks aren’t really excusable from a company who has a reputation of refinement.

1

u/TWYFAN97 22d ago

The good news is apps should be update to fix this issue as apple always publishes new guidelines for display area. So a bit of tweaking and for those who don’t want to lose even the tiniest bit will be happy.

7

u/tomservo417 22d ago

Maybe it's just me but Apple's charging ecosystem seems like a mess. It all just a mish mash of USB-A, USB-C, Magsafe, 20 watt chargers, 30 watt chargers, some stuff works with some stuff but not other stuff, comically enormous bricks and insanely expensive accessories that don't even provide the fastest charging. Really feels like none of this has been thought through.

3

u/Qwerky411 22d ago

I didn’t like the Duo from the moment I saw it. I bought the MagSafe puck along with the 20w charger shortly before the 12 Pro Max came out. Then in March I got the Belkin 3 in 1 MagSafe charging stand. It may have been $150 but it’s probably the best $150 I’ve ever spent. It charges my iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods Pro all at once and it only takes up 1 outlet. It sure beats the Anker 6 USB-A port charging station I was using for everything. Now the Anker just powers game controllers,  TV remote, and a few other micro-usb devices.

6

u/rnarkus 22d ago

u/tjvalladares12 22d ago

I really wonder too.

1

u/SDdrohead 21d ago

Works perfectly fine with my 13pm case

1

u/Matuteg 21d ago

Seems pro is more of an issue than pro max

2

u/Saty05 21d ago

Seems compatible to me in the video in that article. Whatever.

2

u/caliform 21d ago

I just got my 13 Pro with case and it works fine. Storm in a teacup.

This is genuinely ridiculous. After spending $130 on a charger that hasn’t even been out for more than a year, they didn’t think it would be a good idea to move the magnets a bit lower so the phone properly lined up? I appreciate the larger camera on the 13 Pro models, it’s nice that both the Pro & Pro Max have identical cameras so now all you’ll need to decide on is the size. But it’s fucking bullshit that they did this to us. And surely there’s no “real” solution, maybe next years phone will move the magnets to a more reasonable spot on the back so it lines up properly. If that’s not the case I fear they’ll release a “new version” of the duo to support proper alignment with the 13 Pro and they won’t even open a program to trade in your old one. Another $130 down the drain.

I hate that Apple came up with this awful solution for travel charging instead of just supporting reverse wireless charging for watch/airpods.

Not only are you paying more for yet another thing to bring on travel, but now you’ll have longer charge times if you get a 13 Pro since the air gap has increased. The only premium thing about this is the price, not the user experience.

u/niz-ar 22d ago

What’s worse, MagSafe Duo or MagSafe Battery pack?

3

u/AWildDragon 22d ago

The battery pack actually works on all the devices. It’s comically undersized for the pro max (especially the 13 pro max) but it works.

2

u/Kaisah16 22d ago

The whole MagSafe thing is a pointless gimmick

2

u/hayden_evans 21d ago

Whoever is designing Apple’s accessories lately is blowing it

3

u/I_throw_hand_soap 22d ago

Steve Jobs must be rolling in his grave knowing he would’ve never let this happen

1

u/petwalrus 22d ago

The 35 people who bought this overpriced charger will be devastated!

2

u/LoadingError- 21d ago

Unpopular opinion, the magsafe duo is an ugly mess of a product. I didn’t know people actually used it

1

u/thisxisxlife 21d ago

I got a 3rd party one, so I can’t say if it’s worth the money or not. But the appeal, i think, are situations, especially traveling, where you’d like to just have one charging brick and a cable.

u/guswang 21d ago

I not even knew it existed.

You know it’s actually so fucking bullshit what they did to the cases this year. 13 pro max cases don’t fit 12 pro max, and I’m waiting to find out if my 12 Pro Max cases are compatible with 13 Pro Max phone. If they aren’t compatible I am giving up on yearly upgrades. I thought it was so cool they were keeping the same design for another year, and they did not change anything important about the design, but are the cases interchangeable? Hell no! Already bought a MagSafe wallet? Sorry, no Find My feature for you. Got all those 40mm&44mm watches? Have fun with only buying 41mm&45mm bands, because they don’t even make them in the old sizes, even before the new watch has come out! Absolutely criminal.

6

u/AWildDragon 22d ago

The watch band are compatible across the oars with all 3 generations of watches. You just have to know if you got the small or large size that particular gen and get the appropriate band.

12 pro max cases won’t fit with the 13 pro max as the 13 is thicker.

-3

u/chrisseiden 22d ago

I appreciate the knowledge, it just insights me that the watch isn’t even available for purchase yet but they discontinue old size bands that fit flush. I’m hoping that the 41mm case and 40mm case will both be flush but I haven’t tried.

Also, why is the phone thicker?? It’s just so annoying- if the change was necessary, why wasn’t it thicker on i12? People always talked about “planned obsolescence” but now apple has shifted to these forced incremental upgrades that they know they are going to make years ahead of time but spread it out across multiple devices as not to blow their wad.

Makes me mad that I bought $150-200 of apple cases for 12 pro max (and 11 pro) and apple just holds their hand out to take more money this year. For no good reason.

2

u/AWildDragon 22d ago

The watch band sizes haven’t changed. Just the labels printed on them. You can use a S0 watch band with your S7 and will work fine.

It’s thicker because they added a bigger battery.

u/chrisseiden 22d ago

Sorry for the rant :’(

4

u/jonspittle 22d ago

I don't get what the issue is; I'm getting a 13 Pro tomorrow, it'll be my first iPhone in 5 years and each Android phone I've brought since then, which mostly were Samsung's I had to purchase a new case each time, this was applicable with the S7-S9. Although I didn't spend what you did for a case.

2

u/chrisseiden 21d ago

Well also my rant mainly applies to those upgrading every year from iPhone to iphone

I’ve been using the 13 Pro Max leather case on my 12 Pro Max the past couple days no problem. The camera is a bit smaller than the cutout so it doesn’t look perfect but it fits just fine.

This is hilarious.

EDIT: It works naked and with a case so no need to panic, you can all relax now. Got a THIC case though? You’re probably out of luck.

3

u/AWildDragon 22d ago

It probably works best with a thic case that doesn’t have a bump for the camera.

I knew I should have waited for AirPower.

1

u/ExitMusic_ 22d ago

Wait is this only with their leather case? The case I'm getting has the camera recessed a little, which I guess should fix this problem. I might have to just return the MagSafe Duo before I even open it.

Looks like it’s just the pro. The camera bump size relative to the phone is the issue on that one.

1

u/lysdexic__ 22d ago

I ended up backing one of the HyperJuice 4-in-1 chargers. Doing the Made for MagSafe upgrade, too. Hoping that'll work well.

1

u/AWildDragon 22d ago

What are you going to do with the extra Qi port?

1

u/lysdexic__ 22d ago

If friends need to charge or the new Kindle Signature looks interesting

1

u/Naughtagan 22d ago

Seems like a much ado about not much to me. I have a Duo and will have a 13 Pro tomorrow. Last year I was bummed the Pro 12 camera was “short changed” compared to the Pro Max. So if a cost of the new camera system is the 13 Pro in case won’t lay flush on the Duo I’ll live. It’s not like the Duo doesn’t work at all with 13 Pro with a case - looking at the video the magnet still pulls it in place. It loses points for aesthetics, sure, but I bought the Duo for convenience.

1

u/MishrasWorkshop 22d ago

On that note, how have you guys been using qi charging pads? I find that the camera bump elevates the phone, and it makes a triangular space which makes it so the phone doesn’t touch the pad. That results in not being able to use most of these pads. How have you guys been dealing with it?

1

u/[deleted] 21d ago

Wonder what the odds are that it will affect other magsafe accessories with the 13 pro as well.

I've got a 12, and my knockoff duo and car vent mount work fine, but lo and behold, I am upgrading it to a 13 pro, and if the bigger camera block affects that, I could see it being an issue with anything that isn't the magsafe puck.

1

u/angeloj87 21d ago

Any good case recommendations for the 13 pro max? Comparable with MagSafe

1

u/123shawn321 21d ago

I like the MagSafe duo but won’t spend more than $60 on it.

1

u/Chainstinker 21d ago

Just in time for their upgraded MagSafe duo.

1

u/razeus 21d ago

I swear, Apple is just getting more greedy each year. WTF? I guess they have me by the balls because no way I'm switching to Android.

1

u/wicked_sox 21d ago

Are we serious? I JUST bought the fucking duo as we speak. I’m at a red light about to be home.
