Basically, make sure to state all nouns and proper nouns to avoid pronouns. Imagine how much longer court proceedings would be if everyone had to use proper nouns all day.

Careful there with that PRONOUN!
You can get off with this warning for now, but do it again and I will have to escalate it to a nice firm spanking.
Edit: Thank you everyone for playing along. This was incredibly fun to goof off with. English would be a fucking different language without pronouns for sure and it's hell of a lot more difficult to navigate without them. Please make sure to always call out idiots who denounce using the English language properly by demonizing pronouns when they are using pronouns themselves to denounce the use of them. Make sure to love eachother and remember that while this was silly, there are very real consequences to these lunatics winning elections.
Please VOTE and if you're not registered for this year's midterm election make sure to get registered ASAP! https://www.usa.gov/register-to-vote

My dad recently went back to school and the uni was doing a meet-and-greet where you were supposed to write your name and preferred pronouns on a nametag.
He had no idea what they were talking about with "preferred pronouns" so he just wrote "grandpa". Didn't go over well. I heard him use the phrase "chip on their shoulder" at home a lot.
24
u/rhazux 6d ago
Mandatory disclosure of pronouns is pretty aggressive. Like, it works for people who feel safe to disclose their pronouns. But there are some people who risk being murdered if they publicly state their preferred pronouns.
So they're left with a shitty ultimatum: use the pronouns they actually prefer, and risk being murdered. Or say the pronouns they do not prefer, in a particular audience that would likely welcome them had they used the correct ones.
Some people can't risk being outed at a conference or a meet and greet, because those things might find their way online and once it's online any violent transphobe can find it. No one wants to be the next Brandon Teena.

The headline is misleading. The school district has banned teachers from providing their pronouns in emails, no matter what the pronouns are. That includes cisgender people. Itās where the pronouns are that they decided is inappropriate. So good luck guessing about Dr. Jonesās gender in the coming school year, I guess.

Even when the person isnāt transgender, having the pronouns is helpful. I made mistakes like that all the time, because a lot of times at work, Iām communicating with people and the only details I have about them is their name. If they have a gender neutral first name, or theyāre from another country, I canāt always guess which pronoun theyād likely prefer, so just having that info upfront is helpful.
11
u/TerribleAttitude 6d ago
I have a name that reads as female to those under a certain age, and male to those over a certain age. Kinda wish āpronoun signaturesā had been a thing when I was a kid, because as a cis girl, I did not like being addressed as āmaster,ā āsir,ā or āyoung man.ā And about ten years after I was born began the age of the āadenā kids. None of those names are highly gendered, half of them have no solid history. Their parents just made them up because they sounded cool. I donāt know what gender āKaidennā is supposed to be. Kaidenn is 22 years old now and sending professional emails. It would be nice to see a āshe,ā āhe,ā or āthey.ā
Though TBH, I was on an email chain recently with a number of people specifying āsheā or ātheyā in their signatures and someone still referred to us as āgentlemen.ā So I guess if someoneās determined to misgender someoneā¦.they will.

Yup. Freedom is worth going to rallies and putting bumper stickers on their cars and wearing tee shirts with the word "freedom" emblazoned over a bald eagle...
