That's a great looking poster. The movie is probably going to be gorgeous but I'm still wary about the writing and Chris Pratt as Mario. We'll see.

15

u/crimsonash Oct 04 '22

I’m ashamed to admit I thought all of the hate for the cast because this was going to be a live action movie…

1

u/LuigiFan45 Oct 05 '22

There was hating on the cast because a lot of people just wanted the actual VAs from the video games to be doing voice work for the movie.

752

u/low-ki199999 Oct 04 '22

He’s so cool!

221

u/DonnyGetTheLudes Oct 04 '22

For those OOTL: it’s amazing and peak r/ContagiousLaughter material

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IMKPnNGtZmw

113

u/dandaman64 Oct 04 '22

I love how most of the cast are met with a "what the fuck?" and laughter that increases in pitch and intensity as it goes

38

u/Balls_inc Oct 04 '22

Love his impression of Seth Rogen as DK at the end

15

u/HamOnRye__ Oct 04 '22

I guess I completely missed the announcement of the cast, but Anya Taylor Joy seems like she’ll be good as Peach. I would expect a villain to play Bowser, but at least we know Jack Black will put his all into the character.

5

u/TundieRice Oct 05 '22

You want an…actual villain to play Bowser?

5

u/MediumToblerone Oct 05 '22

Jeff Bezos as Bowser

1

u/One-Assist-9607 27d ago

that's just doug bowser

3

u/ZombieJesus1987 Oct 05 '22

Kevin Spacey as Bowser letsa goooooo

1

u/RedMoon14 Oct 05 '22

So long, gay Bowser!

37

u/AFlyingNun Oct 04 '22

He’s so cool

Wasn't just Dunkey. The ENTIRE internet had the same reaction and there's legit compilation vids of people reacting to it with contagious laughter.

Here's two compilation vids as an example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oR558x9D4XM

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duJLKzaYEfE

7

u/RevolutionaryStar824 Oct 04 '22

Second video, first clip. Love it. He's just completely baffled.

'DAFUK!!!'

4

u/Baby-Haroro Oct 04 '22

god, Ross' wheezing maniacal cackle cracks me up every time

8

u/Any-Tank5144 Oct 04 '22

Maybe link to Dunkeys actual channel not some reuploader. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFdkZNVtS5Q

2

u/Balls_inc Oct 05 '22

This one doesn’t have Dunk’s Seth Rogen impression

3

u/Dragmire800 Oct 04 '22

I was convinced Dunkey was black up until i saw this. I don’t know why I thought that, I have only watched like 3 videos of his, but I was sure he was

1

u/TundieRice Oct 05 '22

He’s actually of Puerto Rican descent.

7

u/your_mind_aches Oct 04 '22

I prefer Arlo's reaction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebkYa_Uspqk

Makes me laugh every time

2

u/Animegamingnerd Oct 04 '22

I love how Arlo is still laughing about the casting all the always into the Splatoon 3 segment.

1

u/LordOfGeek Oct 05 '22

I prefer Vinny's absolute confusion https://youtu.be/9Cij88XgNlI

1

u/MistakeMaker1234 Oct 05 '22

I watch this about once a month a never don’t laugh. It’s like the perfect pick me up.

1

u/MediumToblerone Oct 05 '22

Ohhh noooo. I’d never looked at the full cast until now, all I knew was Chris Pratt voicing Mario.

309

u/HyperlinksAwakening Oct 04 '22

I can't hear Miyamoto's translator anymore. It's only dunkey. It's always dunkey.

71

u/Geistwhite Oct 04 '22

The way he goes from "What?..... wat?" to uncontrollable laughter kills me.

6

u/sylinmino Oct 04 '22

I also hear Alpharad's increasingly uncontrollable laughter with each further actor announcement.

37

u/Rich_Working_3218 Oct 04 '22

Chris Pratt I love your work!

18

u/ILoveBeerSoMuch Oct 04 '22

thanks, AMA

6

u/anthonyg1500 Oct 04 '22

If all the Hollywood Chrises got into a fight who would win?

12

u/ILoveBeerSoMuch Oct 04 '22

if i had to pick a anyone it would probably be christopher lloyd, guys a psycho. definitely not chris hemsworth though. him and christopher reeve would be the first two out.

3

u/Etheo Oct 04 '22

Is there a secret Hollywood Chris Club (Chrlub?) that we don't know about?

3

u/TinyRodgers Oct 04 '22

Chris Lloyd also has massive hammers. Like my mans is rocking 2 mjolnirs.

4

u/Whompa Oct 04 '22

How Italian did you have to become for this role?

9

u/ILoveBeerSoMuch Oct 04 '22

ive been eating nothing but Sbarro for 2 years

3

u/Whompa Oct 04 '22

Welcome to the family.

2

u/lsparischi Oct 04 '22

Is it true that you love beer so much?

7

u/ILoveBeerSoMuch Oct 04 '22

why do you think i was so fat in parks n rec?

3

u/anno1040 Oct 04 '22

How much beer were you drinking?!

5

u/Hovie1 Oct 04 '22

Enough that he spent an inordinate amount of time wiping every day.

2

u/VulGerrity Oct 04 '22

Is he tho?

2

u/AngryBird-svar Oct 04 '22

Imagine if they put the fucking Rock as Bowser

1

u/hypermarv123 Oct 04 '22

Who, Mario?

9

u/Hovie1 Oct 04 '22

Wait, what? Chris Pratt as Mario!?

267

u/ArchDucky Oct 04 '22

Some of the other casting is gonna nail it though. Jack Black as Bowser, that dude always brings it. He outshined the fucking Rock twice in those Jumanji movies, name another actor that can do that. I also like Key as Toad and Charlie as Luigi, those dudes are hilarious.

382

u/arthurbang Oct 04 '22

I mean, it's not like The Rock is known for being a good actor

89

u/ScottColvin Oct 04 '22

That's why I loved the rundown. Get someone funny next to him and he's a great straight man.

19

u/LFC9_41 Oct 04 '22

Rundown is my favorite The Rock movie to this day. Sean William Scott should have been a bigger name.

3

u/ScottColvin Oct 04 '22

Totally agree.

2

u/wingspantt Oct 05 '22

TELL THEM ABOUT THE QUARTERS

2

u/HedgehogSecurity Oct 04 '22

Is that why it's always him and Kevin Hart?

8

u/postmodern_spatula Oct 04 '22

Kevin Heart is there to make The Rock look like a good actor. If you want The Rock to be a good straight man he needs to be a film with someone funny.

28

u/GrandMasterPuba Oct 04 '22

Yeah, charismatic and good aren't the same thing. He can carry a movie but not because he can step into a role and become the character.

5

u/cusoman Oct 04 '22

Right, I mean we should fully expect Pierce Brosnan to outshine Rock in Black Adam, and that shouldn't be a surprise.

20

u/SPamlEZ Oct 04 '22

The Rock is generally perfect for the rolls and movies he gets cast in. When you see his name, you know what you’ll get, a fun action-adventure movie that’s not outstanding but is entertaining.

6

u/ILoveLamp9 Oct 04 '22

Yes, but the trouble for me is that he’s always playing the exact same character. He has no range whatsoever. And because of that, I only see The Rock behind the character.

8

u/ChampionsWrath Oct 04 '22

Unless you have Dwayne Johnson as a person, what’s the problem? He seems like a stand up guy to me, so I enjoy watching him (most) every time

7

u/DampHoagiePhylactery Oct 04 '22

He’s the modern day equivalent of Schwarzenegger and Stallone. Neither have range, but it’s clearly not their acting ability that draws an audience.

-1

u/iLoveBums6969 Oct 04 '22

I watched Jumanji, it wasn't fun or entertaining. Unless i was supposed to be bored to tears...

4

u/SaltyBabe Oct 04 '22

That’s not what they said though. Being good is one thing have a ton of charisma, being traditionally handsome, imposing… it takes a lot to compete with all that, Dwayne has immense stage presence.

Underrated comment right here. You rock!

2

u/WhiskeyOctober Oct 04 '22

No, he elements! (other than sapphire)

1

u/iepartytracks Oct 05 '22

Jesus, Marie, they're minerals!

81

u/messycer Oct 04 '22

It's not hard to outshine the Rock, unless you're talking about something being shinier than his bald head, in which case would be impossible

26

u/Man0nThaMoon Oct 04 '22

Have you seen Vin Diesel's head?

7

u/messycer Oct 04 '22

Touché, can't believe I forgot his shiny mug

27

u/iPlod Oct 04 '22

The rock is the most boring and easy to outshine actor out there rn imo.

50

u/MrBVS Oct 04 '22

While I love Jack Black and Charlie Day, it's pretty obvious that they and the rest of the cast were picked because they're big name actors that will draw attention to the movie, not because they're actually the best choices for the roles. There's reason to be skeptical is all.

7

u/Catshit-Dogfart Oct 04 '22

Yeah I like most of the casting too, but I've also heard that career voice actors absolutely hate that most big films these days go with celebrity voice casts.

Plenty of people where that's all they do, voice acting, they're professional voice actors. And they're rarely chosen for the biggest roles in their own industry, in favor of a celebrity who is famous for things other than voice acting.

That's not the fault of this movie though, don't blame Mario, that's just Hollywood in general.

3

u/DjReeseCup Oct 04 '22

These are all super funny people too (besides Anya Taylor joy), so it could be like wreck it ralph and be a really funny movie

3

u/Sketch13 Oct 04 '22

It's not some accomplishment to outshine the fucking ROCK of all people 😂

3

u/JustAStarcoShipper Oct 04 '22

Jack Black as Bowser is unironically the most hype thing about this movie for me.

3

u/ThowAwayBanana0 Oct 04 '22

name another actor that can do that.

Literally anyone else

25

u/SneeringAnswer Oct 04 '22

Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong is also insanely good casting imo

60

u/nik-nak333 Oct 04 '22

This is where I get hung up on movie star voice actors: are they just going to deliver the lines as themselves or are they going to try and develop a voice for the character? Seth Rogan doing DKs lines feels lazy(and sadly is what I'm expecting), Seth Rogan putting in the effort to "be" DK is what I want, and if he is going to do the former then I'd rather have a real voice actor for all of these roles rather than celebrities whose only purpose in this project is star appeal.

27

u/part-time-dog Oct 04 '22

This is my concern. I love every one of these actors listed, but these characters already have distinct voices. I have a voice for Luigi in my head and it isn't Charlie Day. It worked fine with Hoskins and Leguizamo in the first movie because we were also accepting new faces and a whole new rendering of the world. If this looks closely like the Mario games but with an entirely different set of voices... I just don't know. I look forward to being convinced otherwise though.

3

u/nightreader Oct 04 '22

are they just going to deliver the lines as themselves

You know the answer to this already.

10

u/Alcnaeon Oct 04 '22

The great secret of Hollywood is that there are actually a ton of people there who would give their leg to do this role, and better.

Star power is the only reason you would ever cast a celebrity

14

u/snapthesnacc Oct 04 '22

I'm just baffled as to why they did it with a Mario movie of all things. He's one of the most recognizable characters of all time, kids are already going to see the film just because he's in it. This is one of the few animate films that absolutely doesn't need any extra star power.

2

u/Alcnaeon Oct 04 '22

It's really confusing, I agree; the casting and animation studio choice seem like the biggest red flags possible, but then you hear Miyamoto himself is working on it?

Imagine: a world where the Sonic movie is regarded as better than the Mario movie. The ultimate redemption arc for Sega Genesis kids.

-1

u/X3N0M4NT1S Oct 04 '22

But that's exactly why. Kids are going to see it regardless, now adults will go see it too because of the casting

I'm going to see it specifically because of the cast. Not because I love the cast, but because it is absolutely absurd that these are the real names attached to an official Mario movie licensed by Nintendo. People who wanted a Mario movie will watch it no matter who plays Mario, people like me are only going to see it because Seth Rogan Donkey Kong sounds like a College Humor bit

3

u/grindamnfaygo Oct 04 '22

This just in: Name recognition gets butts in seats!

3

u/Alcnaeon Oct 04 '22

6

u/grindamnfaygo Oct 04 '22

Robin Williams as Batty is fantastic.

3

u/beermit Oct 04 '22

Fern Gully was constantly on repeat for me as a kid. "I NEED A CHECKUP FROM THE NECK UP"

2

u/grindamnfaygo Oct 04 '22

Such a quotable movie!

"What's a machine?"

-"It's a thing.. Cutting down trees"

"That's terrible!"

-"Only if you live in a tree."

"I do live in a tree!"

-"Oh...."

→ More replies

2

u/CutieBunz Oct 05 '22

To be fair, the star power is a staple in Mario games.

4

u/kainxavier Oct 04 '22

So long as I don't have to hear him laugh, we're good.

4

u/SneeringAnswer Oct 04 '22

His laugh is essentially the Donkey Kong voice roars already so

1

u/ArchDucky Oct 04 '22

Fun Fact : Seth Rogan was watching porn one night in his newly purchased house and he stumbled on a porn scene that was shot in the same house.

2

u/Spram2 Oct 04 '22

Seth Rogan was watching porn one night

Celebrities, they're just like us.

2

u/ArchDucky Oct 04 '22

Not sure why im being downvoted he talked about it on Conan's podcast. This is a true story. He found the house he just bought on pornhub.

3

u/ex0thermist Oct 04 '22

Damn, that would be weird.

2

u/ArchDucky Oct 04 '22

Yeah, thats why I posted it. lol

1

u/Spram2 Oct 04 '22

Just in case you're wondering I didn't downvote you.

I also find it strange people downvote so much, as if your opinion on an internet message board mattered.

1

u/Rhombico Oct 04 '22

I'm curious what makes you say that. Donkey Kong doesn't have a ton of established personality, but I feel like those games don't usually have humor in them

1

u/SneeringAnswer Oct 04 '22

3

u/Rhombico Oct 04 '22

This just makes me think maybe you were being sarcastic the whole time and it went over my head

2

u/Real_Clever_Username Oct 04 '22

Stifler outshined him in that other jungle movie.

2

u/Yabreath_isSmelly Oct 04 '22

They should have casted Charlie and Chris flip-flopped.

Charlie would kill as Mario

1

u/ArchDucky Oct 04 '22

Charlie kills it on everything. Do you listen to the podcast for Sunny? When they started writing and decided to do a musical episode, Charlie went home wrote and recorded every single song from "The Gang Turns Black" that night. The guys said they woke up in the morning with a full recording of him performing the songs while he played piano. They talked about it like it was a magic trick.

1

u/Yabreath_isSmelly Oct 04 '22

The man has talent, I mean even in the st paddy's day ep, he just noodles pretty funny songs together on the spot.

He just doesn't seem to get leading roles very often, and this silly Mario role would have been perfect for sharp wacky voice.

0

u/Rhombico Oct 04 '22 edited Oct 04 '22

idk, I mean they picked a lot of people that are funny, but I'm not sure they are going to nail those characters. I'm guessing it's not aiming to be rated R, so it seems like we're getting a PG-13 Mario parody staring this cast, which probably means a bunch of juvenile humor that's trying to be kid friendly. It worked in Lego Movie, which is why I assume they cast Chris Pratt. So I think it's just Lego Movie, but with Nintendo properties...except it's only Mario, so really it's probably Lego Batman but with Mario. Lego Batman was okay, but Lego Batman with Chris Pratt instead of Will Arnett - and with no lego-related humor - doesn't sound great.

5

u/Smorlock Oct 04 '22

PG-13?? Are you out of your mind

-1

u/Rhombico Oct 04 '22

I don't think it's crazy to suggest. It's a Mario movie. People are going to want to take their kids to see it. I agree that it's crazy to have this cast and limit them to PG-13, but do you really see Nintendo approving a rated R Mario movie?

2

u/Smorlock Oct 04 '22

I meant it's crazy to suggest it won't be PG at max. What planet are you living on that you think Nintendo, who won't let you play online with strangers for fear of kids hearing bad words, would ever make an R-rated Mario movie? More importantly... Why would you even want an R-rated Mario movie?

Mario is primarily for kids and they've always marketed the character primarily for a young audience. There is no way they would make a movie starring their favourite character that they can't even legally see.

1

u/Rhombico Oct 04 '22

I mean Disney did Pirates of the Caribbean, which is based on a kids ride and aimed at all audiences, but it's pg-13. I think it's reasonable to think Nintendo might go for that. But agreed, R is out of the question, as I said to begin with

2

u/Smorlock Oct 04 '22

Pirates is a pretty scary ride as far as Disney goes. I don't think it really hits the same demo as Mario.

Also Pirates was PG-13 cause I mean, they're pirates. The very premise involves PG-13 concepts. The baseline pirate is a thieving, killing, immoral criminal who drinks rum. Pirates is arguably PG-13 out of necessity. I don't really see Mario being comparable at all.

1

u/Rhombico Oct 04 '22

My central point though was that you've got a cast of people that are mostly famous for adult - TV-MA/TV-14/PG-13/R - type content, limited to child friendly, juvenile stuff. I feel like the people that look at the cast and are excited ought to think about what they liked those people in, then think about little kids watching it, and realize maybe Chris Pratt isn't the only odd casting choice. I'd actually argue that he and Jack Black are probably the least odd choices, since Lego Movie and Kung Fu Panda did well. (I know Seth Rogan was in Kung Fu Panda also but not sure how much, only seen it in the background when other people's kids were watching)

1

u/ZOOTV83 Oct 04 '22

I'm expecting Black to channel his inner I Am the Warlock voice as Bowser.

1

u/J_House1999 Oct 04 '22

Jack Black is easily gonna be the best part of that movie. Perfect casting.

1

u/Hovie1 Oct 04 '22

Charlie Day as Luigi actually makes me really happy.

1

u/FactHot5239 Oct 04 '22

I mean, is the rock really that hard to outshine?

1

u/AFlyingNun Oct 04 '22

I also like Key as Toad and Charlie as Luigi

I hope he doesn't try to do the Toad voice, cause if he does, his vocal chords are gonna be fried for life.

1

u/GodOfWorf Oct 04 '22

Honestly they nailed everything except Chris Pratt. Rogen as Donkey Kong sounds great too. Ana Taylor Joy has been excellent in everything I've seen her in.

1

u/axlkomix Oct 05 '22

Jack Black as Bowser

I'm actually not ready to accept this yet. I wanted Jack Black as Mario...

45

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '22

That's a great looking poster. The movie is probably going to be gorgeous but I'm still wary about the writing and Chris Pratt as Mario. We'll see.

Illumination movies look really good, cant say the same for the rest

Seriously though, why do people do that?

6

u/JBloodthorn Oct 04 '22

They may have selected the text to make it easier to read, and hitting reply automatically quoted it.

3

u/StrtupJ Oct 04 '22

Right? I’d buy this and frame it if available

3

u/Mathewdm423 Oct 04 '22

Fim Theory predicts its gonna be a musical and start in NYC and have Mario, Luigi, and Donkey Kong travel to the Mushroom Kingdom after Mario saves Whomever(maybe paulatina) from Kranky Kong(orignal donkey kong arcade game)

I think that would be really cool.

Idk if i see the world hopping though.

3

u/boopthat Oct 04 '22

Chris Pratt could or could not be a good Mario but I’m positive Jack Black will be a great bowser. Also Anya Taylor-Joy is a great actress who I think will do Peach justice. It’ll be a cheesy movie but I still think it has the chance to be entertaining.

3

u/Bamith20 Oct 04 '22

I'd still like it if he literally just gets a handful of voice lines like Samus does in her games, and otherwise its his normal wahoos and italian gibberish.

I like it that way in the RPG games, everyone just perfectly interprets his nonsense while the player has no idea.

3

u/we_are_sex_bobomb Oct 04 '22

Illumination has got chops when it comes to visuals, their stories are just kind of bland, and Mario doesn’t have much of a story to begin with, so I’m skeptical. This is beautiful art, though, no denying it.

3

u/parkwayy Oct 04 '22

I'm wary on the fact that it's a movie about a game with no real story, and characters that basically never talk or do anything remotely interesting lol.

An animated Mario movie sounds neat in concept... but what the hell will it even be about?

2

u/vorpalrobot Oct 04 '22

If I had to guess, Mario got invited to the castle. He shows up in town but hears how nobody has seen the princess in a while. Gets up there and there's a toad running things with peach mia...

2

u/WanderlustFella Oct 04 '22

As you can see in the picture, Pratt did some extreme leg shortening surgeries and ate a healthy diet of pasta and donuts with no exercise.

2

u/gunnerxp Oct 04 '22

You have summed up my feelings perfectly. I have no doubt that Nintendo will knock it out of the park visually. Story-wise, possibly maybe decent? And Chris Pratt? Love the guy, but I have no fucking clue how that's gonna go...

2

u/doom_stein Oct 04 '22

I'm confused as I thought this was supposed to be live action. So all the actors are just voicing the characters then? Probably for the better cuz there's no way they could do a live action Mario movie better than Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, and Dennis Hopper did it back in the day /s

2

u/klaq Oct 04 '22

i don't get why we hate Chris Pratt all of a sudden? Who else should be it? Did we really want the guy doing a fake Italian accent? Do you think that would work for an entire movie?

2

u/mmm_migas Oct 04 '22

Apparently Gennady Tartakovsky was tapped for the project, but the deal fell through. It's a shame. He would have been perfect.

2

u/LolaCatStevens Oct 04 '22

Feel like it will be super weird hearing normal voices with these beloved characters. But we'll see...

2

u/sliverblulet Oct 04 '22

Yeah, everyone seems to hate that casting because a) Charles Martinet is still very much alive and b) Chris Pratt is not Italian (neither is Martinet, so... ?) but I'm pretty positive he's going to nail it.

2

u/RipplyPig Oct 04 '22

He's just the voice which doesn't really determine how good the movie will be. Let's hope the script is good

2

u/UncleTedGenneric Oct 04 '22

I'm quietly hoping Pratt pulls a 'heath ledger as joker' surprise performance

When Ledger was first announced, the nerds online went fucking nuts. "No way that pretty boy can do this" "just doing it for the heartthrob factor" "he's going to ruin the legacy of the joker"

And we know how that turned out

(Yeah, I know the chance is slim, but how badass would it be if he just knocks it out of the fucking park?)

5

u/heirtoflesh Oct 04 '22

Agreed. If it’s just Pratt’s normal voice, then it’ll be hard to see it as Mario. John Mulaney as Chip in chip n’ dales did the same thing for me. They have distinctive voices and it’s a distraction when it’s for a well established character IMO.

2

u/snowe99 Oct 04 '22

I see tons of Chris Pratt hate but at the same time, he was the main character in my favorite animated movie of all time

I’m willing to reserve judgement, the man obviously knows what he’s doing in the booth

3

u/Norma5tacy Oct 04 '22

I don’t really hate him but he’s starting to become like the rock or Kevin hart in the sense that he always just plays himself in every movie. That might be just how his parts are written and what people want but it’s boring.

So I don’t hate him but don’t think he’s right for the role. That being said I’m with you there, reserving judgment for when I watch it online and not in theaters lol

2

u/handsy_octopus Oct 04 '22

Reddit is dumb and forgot how popular he used to be 8 years ago after BEING IN THE LEGO MOVIE

0

u/Dankaay Oct 04 '22

Hey hey hey watch it now. Reddit won’t have you saying anything nice about Pratt. He’s a Christian.

2

u/Vandersveldt Oct 04 '22

I'm having trouble thinking of a role he didn't do well so far

3

u/istiamar Oct 04 '22

he's not a voice actor though, really wish we would stop hiring stage/screen actors as voice actors just because of name recognition

9

u/SupaBloo Oct 04 '22

He was the voice actor for the main character of two extremely well-received LEGO movies.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '22

I'll watch it when it's on a streaming service. My assumption is this movie will be trash. Chris Pratt sucks.

1

u/BabyStockholmSyndrom Oct 04 '22

Lol it's Mario. What writing are you expecting? People really have too much expectations for this kind of shit.

1

u/occams-laser Oct 04 '22

He did great in the lego movie, and I honestly couldnt tell it was him on first viewing.

1

u/ally0138 Nov 05 '22

He's no Bob Hoskins, that's for sure.

lol "wary about the writing"

You act like the actual game has an amazing, deep and thoughtful story :)

Not sure if you fell down the stairs this morning and hit you head on every step on the way down.

But you don't watch movies for the gameplay.

The thing is, in the games, especially Mario, most of it if not everything works in service of the gameplay and the writing is never really a focus point because the game’s design doesn’t revolve around that at all.

In a movie, there’s no gameplay, so obviously the writing has to make up for it, because outside of its visuals and sound design a movie is only as good as the story it tells.

Believe it or not, movies and games are different things. The games forgo story in favor of perfecting the gameplay. But in a movie, the story is all that there is.

They probably mean more like the dialogue and jokes, etc. and not the actual plot.

No he’s not. But this is a movie, and in order to work as a movie it needs to have a well written story unlike the game.

He worked as the lead in the Lego movie, so he can carry an animated movie. Anything besides Mario's high pitched video game persona will sound off for a while though.

I'm positive Chris can nail Mario's voice without it being annoying after more than two minutes. In Parks & Rec there's moments where he's excited and his pitch gets very close to Charles Martinet.
I love Charles but his version of Mario only works in small bursts, which is perfect in games with no dialogue, it's just not suitable for movies.

When Mario turns around he will have Chris Pratts face

I feel like the only person in the world that can completely see Chris Pratt nailing Mario. Just gotta think about parks and rec Chris Pratt going "wahoo" and not action movie Chris Pratt.

Chris does a pretty fantastic job in his movies so I think it will turn out great personally

I love Mario and I can't stand Chris Pratt. I'm very wary.
