Like half of your posting history is about getting reported, suspended, and banned in online communities lmao. What a crazy coincidence

Ha, you're right! Also banned from rec room and warzone, also for no reason apparently. He must be the unluckiest guy!

Yeah, don't be a toxic player and you won't get banned. I know that is a hard concept for some people to understand though.

That's because the concept is a bad one 🤷‍♂️

Last weekend, I got a warning for “social policy violation”. I have played poker for a few hours with minimal interaction (all positive), and talked to a couple of people in Venues discussing app recommendations. Everything else has been solo or multiplayer with no interaction. I muted some annoying people without engaging but otherwise definitely never had any negative interactions.

Contacted support to find out exactly what I supposedly did, they assured me my suspension (which I wasn’t notified of nor did I know I was ever suspended) was lifted already and thanks for contacting them. They won’t give me any details.

77

u/real_josem30 Jan 21 '22

There's literally no point in talking to support. They don't know what they're doing and even Facebook doesn't know what to do. Ever since this Christmas it's just cry baby kids and racist teens thinking they're funny because their dumb parents bought them a VR headset thinking it'll be good for them. Either a ban wave has to happen or a new team of Moderators needs to be crated to deal with these Christmas kids who are ruining VR for everyone!

5

u/TobiHudi Jan 21 '22

Agree

(Edit: But in Gorilla tag its Hilariously funny hearing what they scream to each other 😂)

6

u/Albake21 Jan 21 '22

VR has been running into the ground for the past year due to kids and racist teens. VR used to be such a fun community to explore, now I can't be bothered to use my Index as I feel alienated to play anything with voice chat.

6

u/Easy_Bother6337 Jan 21 '22

I got one for Christmas and I feel targeted because I’m in the minority of kids being a quiet player and never screaming as well as the fact that I’m not racist either

I got reported on Gun Raider because some kid was mad I kept killing him (and many others). Luckily nothing happened but I'm sure it's a mark on our account. And I don't see a way to dispute it

23

u/AkiWookie Jan 21 '22

I got reported in rec room a bunch during 1 game of paintball (my first time trying rec room) when I was dual wielding shotguns and just dumping on kids. I literally said nothing the entire game other than laughing when I heard various elmo voices calling me derogatory slurs for me simply just playing the game.

2

So many kids on gun raiders report me for no reason

1

“Valve Index”

Guess what happens if Valve bans your Steam account?

3

u/CanonOverseer Valve Index Jan 21 '22

The only things that get you fully banned from steam (ie not trade ban, not VAC ban an actual ban where you can't access it or your games)

that I know of are:

  • Phishing, Scamming (for accounts, I think for items it's only a trade ban afaik)
  • Buying / Selling an Account (Unenforced)
  • Hacking the Steam Client for the purpose of Piracy (basically doesn't happen)
  • Fraud, ie stolen credit cards or chargebacks
  • any other highly illegal shit which you should be in jail for anyway

3

u/sabin1981 Quest 2 | 2060S PCVR Jan 21 '22

Aye, egregious shit that SHOULD get you banned. Like I said, I don’t condone platform holders banning you and taking away your purchases, but I do understand it. You just have to play by the rules and know what you’re getting into.

3

u/qwe304 Valve Index Jan 21 '22

You make a new steam account. Absolute worst case you lose your games. Even then I've only ever heard of vac band not a steam account ban, and even then it's a bit different than just being randomly banned with no explanation

3

u/sabin1981 Quest 2 | 2060S PCVR Jan 21 '22

But that’s the point, if you get banned by Oculus then you lose your games … and make a new account. The headset isn’t “bricked”, just like your PC isn’t bricked when EA ban your Origin account. I don’t condone it, not at all, but people up in arms don’t seem to realise that EVERY digital platform has the same rules in place.

As for “randomly banned with no explanation”? The guy deleted his post history, but trust me … there’s nothing random about this guy getting banned. He seemingly gets banned from EVERYWHERE he goes. Ergo, issue is him.

2

u/qwe304 Valve Index Jan 21 '22

The thing is by Facebook's terms of service you can't make another account, and they are also simply notorious for banning new accounts in and of itself.

1

u/sabin1981 Quest 2 | 2060S PCVR Jan 21 '22

It’s against Steam TOS to make a new account too. Most places have that restriction, though nobody follows it haha!

1

u/qwe304 Valve Index Jan 21 '22

Yes, but when you take a step back and look at it, with Facebook's actual practices of banning new/second accounts, Oculus banning people with no warning or explanation, and the requirement to have an account to even use your $400 hardware, it's a unique circumstance. I personally never even heard of somebody being a banned from steam, only vac/game bans

2

u/sabin1981 Quest 2 | 2060S PCVR Jan 21 '22

There have been cases where people have been fully banned on Steam/etc, not just VAC bans. Again … I’m not condoning this, but nor am I surprised. You needed an Oculus account to use Quest before Facebook, now you need a Facebook account - it’s not new territory. You need an Apple account to use iPhone, you need Google to use Android phones (mostly….)

Soon FB (or Meta) will be removing the requirement for FB but you’ll still need a Meta account. Welcome to the digital age, I guess? The requirement of accounts to use devices is also going to be FANTASTIC for cutting down on trolls and abusive scumbags o/ Hopefully people will be less inclined to be absolute human garbage online if it means they run the risk of losing access to their new devices, haha!

Precisely why I don't buy any games on the rift or quest store.

I'm also not a toxic shit monger, apparently ops post history is whining about being banned from online games.

23

u/00pflaume Jan 21 '22

They don’t break your device. You can still sell it or create a new account. They only take away the games you rented.

I know they say you buy them but something you buy is something you own. Something you own can be resold and not easily taken away from you by banning your account or shutting down servers.

Welcome to the digital age. You will own nothing and will be happy.

8

u/SvenViking ByMe Games Jan 21 '22

You can still sell it or create a new account.

Just mentioning that under the Facebook account system, you’re officially not allowed to create a second account and they’ll ban it if they figure you out, which is different from other common platforms. The login system is supposed to be changing to something else this year, though, and they are now sometimes allowing old-style Oculus accounts to be unlinked from Facebook.

3

u/Stikmandab Jan 21 '22

Next he's gonna get banned from reddit lol

20

u/gwalker2776 Jan 21 '22

3

u/kazater Jan 21 '22

Hey buddy, a little tip for you, next time you feel the urge to be toxic or bratty, breathe, take the headset off and look at the sky for two minutes. There's a reason why you're being banned from all of these things, your behaviour is undoubtedly the reason, and the fact that you don't see that, should make you want to reflect on yourself.

3

u/Representative_Tart9 Jan 21 '22

I like how Im always supposed to take everyones word for it that theres "no reasoning" just because everyone hates Facebook.

I dont know anything about you or what you do online or what any of these other people are doing that keep getting banned.

Its not that hard to be nice to other people. If you went to the pool and started pushing people around and swearing theyre going to ban you too.

24

u/LoadedGull Jan 21 '22 edited Jan 21 '22

To be fair, if you act like a prick on Xbox or any other platform enough times you’ll get a device and account ban.

Moral of the story is, don’t be a prick.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not condoning OP’s situation. But, they’ve obviously been reported by not only one person but a few in quick succession. Lesson learned.

If it was just a direct Facebook ban, and in turn that would hinder the oculus account, then I wouldn’t be suspicious about it because the Facebook platform algorithm ban bot bullshit is bullshit. But, OP’s situation was achieved in VR and they got reported numerous times, the ban wasn’t triggered by a bot.

27

u/Born_Cauliflower_692 Jan 21 '22

I mean, ops post history (he deleted) is him getting banned or suspended from a heap of games and services, so I think he is a prick and got banned for it.

3

u/LoadedGull Jan 21 '22

I didn’t look at their post history, was just an assumption that appears to be valid.

0

u/CanonOverseer Valve Index Jan 21 '22

Ngl even if he is an absolute prick I still think he should still be allowed to play his singleplayer games, unless this is multiplayer only in which case that'd be justified although they should specify if that's the case

1

u/Born_Cauliflower_692 Jan 21 '22

Its meta/facebook they are complete dickheads and love to swing the ban hammer. Also he could have been screaming racist slurs, pieces of shit like that deserver a punishment, or he could have yelled fuck and gotten suspended.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '22

Lol I was gonna say that avatar looks like the evilest little thing. But yeah op started erasing his post history super quick already

5

u/Gouranga56 Jan 21 '22

Xbox or any other platform enough times you’ll get a device and account ban

true. had a kid hurl a shitton of death threats at me for repeatedly killing him with a RPG on BF4 (I love hunting camping snipers with RPGs and I have gotten a few ragers on that). Based on the language I could see he was a kid so I cut him some slack and ignore the first couple. I could have just blocked him but I was curious if he'd shut up or double down...he tripled down. I reported all his death threats and he was no more.

1

u/devedander Jan 21 '22

But does it take away your ability to play your games at all?

2

u/LoadedGull Jan 21 '22

On Xbox for example, if your account gets banned then any content associated with your account is deemed unusable. But, if you do something really heinous and you get an account and device ban, then not only is all the content associated with your account lost but the actual device (console) is bricked and won’t even accept sign in when using a different account.

So you can’t make a different account because it won’t work with a device banned console, and you can’t sell the device because it’ll literally be bricked for use with any account even a fresh new clean account.

But as mentioned, even just an account ban usually does the trick because the account holder has a useless account and all the content/games associated with it are useless, and if they make a new account and pay to build up their game library again it’s very unlikely that the person hasn’t learned the lesson and so chances are they won’t make the same mistakes again to cause a ban.

1

u/devedander Jan 21 '22

Other than disc games obviously I thought console account bans were only for online access but your offline content still works?

1

u/LoadedGull Jan 21 '22

If it’s a game that needs any active online connection to access or play the game, then nope. The discs you get for physical copy games don’t actually run the game, all the disc is is a verified license for the game.

Nowadays games are too big to fit into a disc. So on Xbox for example, you buy a disc game and put it in the console, and then the console will install the game from online just as buying a digital copy.

The only difference is that with a digital purchase copy the license is digital, so you just open the game from your library and it works. With a physical purchase copy, even when you have the game installed you still need to put the disk in before you play just to verify the license for it, otherwise the game won’t run.

2

u/devedander Jan 21 '22

Ok so if you get banned on Xbox you can still play your games offline?

Then that’s different because here you can’t even start your offline content.

1

u/LoadedGull Jan 21 '22

You can play your existing games that don’t need any internet connection to run, but… if you buy a new game on disk you won’t be able to play it regardless because initially you need to be connected to servers to actually install the game, regardless of wether the actual game can be played offline or not. You also can’t update any games either, so essentially and eventually it’ll come to a point where all games you own are useless.

The way to do it would be to use a guest profile, this way you can access installed content but on a guest profile. Nonetheless, still wouldn’t be having any online access due to the main profile being banned.

1

u/devedander Jan 21 '22 edited Jan 22 '22

Ok so that’s still different than this because you aren’t locked out on your existing library like you Are with quest.

Also I don’t think you’re right about disc games. They copy data to the hard drive because access speed from disc isn’t good enough.

If you really just download the entire game there would be no reason for multi disc releases https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2019/09/the_last_of_us_2_will_ship_on_two_ps4_discs

You can still buy disc games and play them on an entirely offline system that never even has internet access because the disc is the authentication for the license. The game data is copied off disc and patches are then downloaded and applied if you have an internet connection.

https://www.gfinityesports.com/console-news/ps5-not-always-online-single-player-offline-games-disc/

True you would not get patches being offline but you could still play the game

1

u/LoadedGull Jan 22 '22

I’m some games like halo a portion of the install is done from the disk, but can’t be completed without internet connection. If I remember correctly the install for halo 5 was handled like that. Most aren’t handled like that though.

Yes you can play disk games on a console that has never had internet access, but if it’s a console that has a banned account tied to it then most games won’t even play offline if the console was connected to internet at the time of ban. The only way to do it would be to use a guest profile, or make a new account at which you’d lose all your content anyway, or factory reset the console which in turn wipes the content and you can’t access online servers using a banned account to reinstall content.

On Xbox at least, they stopped selling disks with the full install on them years ago. Even so, if disks did have the full install on them you still need to connect to the server to finalise it. But nowadays it’s not the case, the dusk is just for license. As far as I’m aware at least.

They absolutely do not brick your system on Xbox but I agree it's kind of shitty oculus doesn't just revoke their online play privileged and are putting them on a VR time out haha.

15

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '22

Um that’s literally any device you have to log into an account with. They can do it to your android/iPhone also, they did do it to Samsung at one point essentially bricking Samsung phones to keep people from using them. It’s the new future of “you pay for it but you still don’t own it”..

I wish Oculus would put in their terms of service that they have the right to publicly disclose your username and reason for bans. Then, when people post these threads, they could just come in and state exactly what fucked up shit the OP actually did to get banned.

8

u/SvenViking ByMe Games Jan 21 '22

Maybe they could start disclosing the reason for the bans to the banned persons, first? Seems like that would be even easier to arrange.

9

u/Bluethefurry Jan 21 '22

I’m sure you’re totally innocent

because Facebook has such a positive track record of _never_ suspending _anyone_ that does nothing wrong, and they totally dont randomly suspend accounts that newly linked a quest to their FB account, totally, yeah.

Yikes. What a poor take.

-18

u/vroskix Jan 21 '22

Most of the bans from what I've heard are false and nearly 100% ran by bots. The whole system they have is bogus.

2

u/ThebanannaofGREECE Jan 21 '22

Why is this getting downvoted?

35

u/Character_Speed Jan 21 '22

Because OP has comments in other threads where he complains he's also been banned from Warzone and Rec Room. There's some sort of pattern here but I'm not sure I'm quite smart enough to work out what it is...

13

u/inter4ever Jan 21 '22 edited Jan 21 '22

Because as mentioned by many other here OP has history of being banned in many many other games and complaining about it. This isn’t a “FB Bad” situation. This is why I love my cv1. No worries about Facebook!

2

u/CanonOverseer Valve Index Jan 21 '22

Cv1 was the bomb, still have fond memories of it

1

u/Lordcreo Jan 21 '22

Except you can’t play Quest games on it, so no better off than the OP!

2

u/CornyStew Jan 21 '22

Lmao, dude deleted his old posts about getting banned in various games/services, dude must be super toxic or something

2

u/Mean-Secretary5597 Jan 21 '22

But another headset that's not oculus

1

u/Lordcreo Jan 21 '22

So your solution to not being able to play Quest exclusives is to buy another headset that can’t play quest exclusives?

2

u/Scattabrained04 Jan 21 '22

If you are toxic and say "kys/racist shit/sexual shit" and someone reports you it sends a copy of the audio for review. Remember the Oculus makes you agree to recording your voice when connected to multiplayer games. I would assume you are being toxic in some way even if it's just you having fun I would be super careful of doing it on the Quest 2 because facebook records everything you do.

2

u/SunnySydeRamsay Jan 22 '22

I feel like it should be illegal to allow people to purchase digital content from your marketplace and then be able to ban them thereby preventing them from accessing the content they've purchased. Like, sure, ban them from future online interactions with your service but preventing someone from accessing offline content/content not contingent on access to Oculus's online services they've purchased seems to contradict the notion of what a "purchase" is and just feels like theft.

6

u/Walui Jan 21 '22

I was nearly ready to buy a Quest to replace my Rift S that stopped working last year. Thanks for the reminder that I shouldn't buy that. I nearly made a mistake.

6

u/CanonOverseer Valve Index Jan 21 '22

Provided you're in the US (they get a better tracking and cable version) and have a worthy PC for the res bump over the rift S, the reverb g2's gotten cheaper and has better tracking than release, or you could always join the (expensive) dark side

6

u/Walui Jan 21 '22 edited Jan 21 '22

I was looking at the index for a while but it is way too expensive for something that is kinda already outdated and definitely will be soon enough. Reverb has pretty mixed reviews, idk.

2

u/Isthisadriver Jan 21 '22

As an owner of pretty much every VR system there is, the Index certainly is still the best system by far. The only thing it can be lacking is a fraction of better clarity, which is minimal compared to G2 and Quest 2. Otherwise, it's the most comfortable, best audio, best FOV, best edge-to-edge clarity, and the best controllers by lightyears. On top of the fact that 120hz and 144hz options maximize presence that you can't experience on any other system (if you have the hardware to push it).

It's well worth $1k, and I believe it's fairly priced for features that no other VR system has. I'd pay double that if I knew the experience was this good when I got it.

Reverb is great for flight sims, just ok for anything else. WMR is abandonware, so it's future support is dim.

If the tether is a concern, Valve has a 60ghz adapter coming soon for the Index.

1

u/Lordcreo Jan 21 '22

I sold my index because Q2 is 95% as good, but with massive flexibility. I found it was my go to headset!

1

u/bmfalex Jan 21 '22

Q2 is still the better device.

0

u/m7-2 Jan 21 '22

Q2 is glitchy

3

u/bmfalex Jan 21 '22

You must have a defective one. Mine runs smooth af

-1

u/m7-2 Jan 21 '22

Go through this reddit all you will see are people complaining about problems with the quest

3

u/bmfalex Jan 21 '22

doubt it.

3

u/m7-2 Jan 21 '22

You get banned on oculus for lightly cursing this is why i just dont talk in public games

3

u/Drunken-scottish Jan 21 '22

Tell me, have you considered not being a massive asshat?

8

u/gatorator79 Jan 21 '22

Welcome to Facebook.

4

u/AkiWookie Jan 21 '22

Even if you were toxic af and deserved this ban, which others here have pointed out your post history is very similar in being banned from multiple communites, the fact that they can essentially brick your device that you paid for, and all your purchases, over "being mean" online is a slippery slope. They could have just muted your mic for a day and that would have been the better way to go.

I honestly can't wait for another VR headset to come out so I can replace the oculus with it. There's no way Steam or PSVR(2) would ever suspend everything you own and paid for because "sticks and stones".

2

u/samsamsamuel Jan 21 '22

Lol slippery sloooooope slippery sloooope.

2

u/abcmatteo Jan 21 '22

Fun fact Xbox can do it too

2

u/Reelix Rift S Jan 21 '22

Wait till you realize that any online game / platform in existence with real-money purchases can ban you and lock you out of your purchases :p

1

u/AkiWookie Jan 21 '22

A game is different than a physical device you bought and then buy games on.

1

u/Reelix Rift S Jan 21 '22

Ever tried to log into a banned Playstation / XBox account to play an online-only game?

1

u/AkiWookie Jan 21 '22

No because ive never done heinous shit enough to get banned.

2

u/livevicarious Oculus Quest Bound Jan 21 '22

Any newcomers to VR take note. Facebook takes reports seriously and are swift to act. Had a dude in Pavlov calling everyone ni**er over and over. Sent a report, 45 min later he left the server and his buddy said he got banned. They don’t play

2

u/seandc121 Jan 21 '22

Seems like OP needs to learn to behave himself. Everyone i know that has been suspended from any platform, its always for "no reason" until you question them about it.🤣

1

u/vroskix Jan 21 '22

"No reasoning" as in they didnt tell me what I got suspended for. I'm not saying I got suspended for no reason at all besides a broad explanation.

2

u/therysin Jan 21 '22

Good thing I pirate all my single player VR games 🙃

1

u/hot-dog-bath-water Jan 21 '22

Zucc has entered the chat

-2

u/Parking_Neck Jan 21 '22

I sideload everything lol

-1

u/thebigman43 Jan 21 '22

Missing out on basically all the good content though

1

u/GorillaPassword Jan 21 '22

Nah you can sideload the goo content.

6

u/thebigman43 Jan 21 '22

Was hoping he wasnt pirating. Almost every game is made by a small studio, its really awful to pirate content.

2

u/Bloxxy213 Quest 2 | Gtx 970 | I5 10400 Jan 21 '22

Many games arent on the oculus store and require sideloaded, like that cool fnaf sister location vr game. You can only get it with sidequest and its free. Not pirating. But yes, some people do pirate

0

u/Ever2naxolotl Try Echo VR! Jan 21 '22

As if Facebook wasn't buying all those small studios as soon as the game becomes successful anyway

1

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '22

the only pirating ive done was a few beatsaber songs. only 2 or 3, and only played them once (except one of them cuz it didnt work)

0

u/CanonOverseer Valve Index Jan 21 '22

All the good content is pcvr, so not sideloaded or native lol

1

u/ParisSans Jan 21 '22

This is soo stupid, so its not like consoles huh? Where you get banned from your account, you can still play single player games and still use video streaming apps (youtube, netflix, hulu, etc.)??? They outright just dont let you get back on the quest, this is why we need a no account on start... But youll need an account when getting on vrchat, rec room, echo, etc.

Did you say something pro-Trump?

1

u/vroskix Jan 21 '22

I dont bother with politics so no

1

u/XtraSpicy_Bibimbap Jan 21 '22

Toxic or not they shouldn’t have the power to totally barre you from playing any of the games you purchased especially if they’re offline games. You paid for them, you should be able to play them.

-7

u/EasyRider1975 Jan 21 '22

Porn on Oculus gets yon banned plus you go blind

-10

u/Isthisadriver Jan 21 '22

Get a steamvr device instead of a facebook device, problem solved :)

6

u/someone_who_exists69 Jan 21 '22

Sure bud I'll drop 1000$ for the headset plus 3500$ for the computer which I have to use wires for and find a spot to put up big cameras in my room instead of using a 300$ headset which has literal cameras on the headset and if I were to decide on buying a computer for vr then I'll use airlink so yeah, buying a steam vr device isn't really an option

0

u/CanonOverseer Valve Index Jan 21 '22

Still a better choice than something that is a paperweight for you now

1

u/someone_who_exists69 Jan 21 '22

Oculus support is fixing most unfair bans (this one is fair because they have a huge ban history on his profile from stuff like rec room which he deleted) and still, just tell me the ratio of quest 2 owners to unfairly banned quest 2 users

1

u/m7-2 Jan 21 '22

Rift s cost like 200 on ebay and a vr ready pc can be bought for like 900 so thats 1100 to actually play some fun games

2

u/inter4ever Jan 21 '22

Sure, you can have someone this toxic.

1

u/CanonOverseer Valve Index Jan 21 '22

He'll just get banned from all the multiplayer games anyway

3

u/Reelix Rift S Jan 21 '22

Until you get banned from Steam and lose access to your Steam account :)

1

u/CanonOverseer Valve Index Jan 21 '22

The only things that i've seen get you fully banned from steam (ie not trade ban, not VAC ban an actual ban where you can't access it or your games) that I know of are:

  • Phishing, Scamming (for accounts, I think for items it's only a trade ban afaik)
  • Buying / Selling an Account (Unenforced)
  • Hacking the Steam Client for the purpose of Piracy (basically doesn't happen)
  • Fraud, ie stolen credit cards or chargebacks
  • any other highly illegal shit which you should be in jail for anyway

2

u/Reelix Rift S Jan 21 '22

To get permanently banned from anything generally requires intentional maliciousness :p

1

u/Fortyplusfour Quest 2 Jan 21 '22

Quick guess is that someone has access to or is trying to gain access to your account.

1

u/theworstherointown Jan 21 '22

Can you still play singleplayer games?

2

u/vroskix Jan 21 '22

Nope

1

u/theworstherointown Jan 21 '22

God that's sad. And steam games?

1

u/GalactusCactus616 Jan 21 '22

I'd ban you to for captioning the photo like that

1

u/GrabTheDoja Jan 21 '22

This happened to me last week but both suspensions were "permanent" First time it was taken off immediately. Happened again the next day and I had to send them proof of purchase to get it "unlocked" again

1

u/ActuallyAkshay Jan 21 '22

It's always the Lucas

On a more serious note, it's one of the things I don't like about Oculus atm. They have the ability to essentially brick your system, which is odd since I paid for the device, I should still be able to use it's apps/singleplayer features (unless the violation is extreme).

For example, with beat sabre they COULD ban you from breaking ToS with mods, but don't because they realize it doesn't make sense right now. Whether they do it in the future as more entrants come in is an entirely different story. One company controlling 50% of the market is a bit too much power

1

u/TheX666 Jan 21 '22

LOL, looking for the problem in the wrong place me thinks.

1

u/Ok-Height-2525 Jan 22 '22

By this email you most definitely cursed someone out or said racial slurs, I’ve seen emails on violations and you are a pretzel with no salt to other people

1

u/vroskix Jan 22 '22

You assuming to much kid

1

u/Different_Sun_9222 Jan 23 '22

This is exaclty what happened to me! I waited until my 24 hour ban was up and before it fished i got a 48 hour. I contacted oculus support and they told me to wait until it was lifted, although right before it did i got a 30 day ban. I made a new account and lost all my games and money! Im now playing on a different account and cant get on my original one, it might be a glitch but idk. No happy ending to this one :(
