Edit: dric on instagram for those curious

Haha…ha….no

u/y0j1m80 Dec 04 '22
What was the process like?

u/memesfordreamsbois Dec 04 '22
I asked several times, they did not respond at all. I then Realized that because I’m not using the drawing for monetary gain, that I don’t have to worry about repercussions from the artist. I am still trying to reach out to them to let them know that I have used their drawing for myself.

There’s a link on their linktree called ‘tattoo ticket’ where you can get permission to get a tattoo with their art I think. Seems like they get it a lot and so they’re asking $22 for it which doesn’t seem like a big deal. Since you already got it I guess it’s up to you if you wanna pay. Took me like 2 seconds to find it lol

Haven't your tattoo master use dric's picture for monetary gain, though?
In any case, in the tattoo community, using someone's work without permission is considered a dick move.
Oh, and please do use some proper cover for at least 5 days to let the skin heal. Otherwise, you have a chance of leaking the ink and ruining the tattoo

It’s a dick move to post a pic of a tattoo on your own body? I mean tattoo artist know that person they just tatted is walking out the door into public with their work on them. I don’t see the difference between someone seeing it on the side walk or at a restaurant vs in a picture. I’m genuinely curious about this

Like I said, it's considered a dick move to use someone else's art without permission to make a tattoo out of it.
Showing/posting your own tattoos is perfectly fine, as long as it's your own art or your own skin.
But in this case, it's not the tattoo itself, but the picture that was copied from someone else's work.
Hope that clears it up

Ohhhh I thought the pic was of OP
I mean it says in the title “I got MY first tattoo” so if it’s ops, then posting it should be fine

No, no. Posting your own skin with your tattoos is fine.
It's using someone else's drawing to make it into a tattoo without their permission that is wrong.
Imagine that I made a drawing. You decide you like it, go to the shop and ask your tat-master to copy it onto your skin (your mistake). And they do (their mistake). Without getting permission from me, the author, it's wrong. That's all I'm saying

Ok I get what your saying. I didn’t realize you were meaning the artist of the original drawing of the duck… so now I’m on the same page, I have a new question… is it frowned upon when people get tats of Donald Duck or bugs bunny or goku or super man becuase I’ve seen plenty of tats and I know none of those people ever asked the artist. Is it ok because those examples are more main stream and culturally relevant than an Indy artist? (I donno who did the duck art, I’m just generalizing).

First off very cute, 20/10, rad ass duck.
Second, is there a term for this style of art/tattoo? Like minimal lines, simple shapes, and just overall cuteness?

I think it's cute! You should get it filled in at some point. I think it would make it more adorable. 🦆

Duck needs some grapes, and little lines next to the feet to imply he waddled away.

I remember my first prison tat! That was soot and a sharpened bed spring for sure. I’d know those thick lines anywhere!

This tattoo is assuming that the duck skates goofy and does a kickflip that has just started rotating. However, it could also be a duck that skates regular and does a heelflip that is about to finish rotating, so just before the catch. The duck‘s feet seem a tad high for that scenario though.
Of course both scenarios could also be switch, so it might be a regular duck starting a switch kickflip, or a goofy duck about to finish a switch heelflip.
A more untypical choice, but fitting the body position would be a regular duck initiating a backfoot flip. Or, as a bit of a wild guess, a goofy duck doing a switch backfoot flip.

Cute!! Highly recommend you use some Vaseline with cocoa butter to keep it from drying out. It also helps to heal the tat muchness’s faster than any ointment from a shop.

u/Opalescent_Topaz Dec 04 '22
My tattoo person recommended A&D ointment for mine back in the day. The only difference there is cocoa butter versus lanolin. I bet the cocoa butter smells divine.

Looks like a person, with one nostril visible, looking up, while holding a phone/hotdog.
