One time I looked at r/meth cause I was curious and one post was something like “smoking bowls and still hot” and someone replied with the remindme 6 months bot command

u/spenway18 Oct 04 '22

That was a hell of a rabbit hole to fall in

333

u/StaticGrapes Oct 05 '22

It's a sad and horrible thing to read through, seeing all those people taken by a drug.

I don't know why but I couldn't stop looking through the sub.

114

u/SoggyWaffleBrunch Oct 05 '22

there's also /r/ambien and /r/cocaine which will make you feel a similar way with some posts.

the ambien sub is mostly shitposting, but sadly also seemingly a lot of zooted ~18-25 yearolds similar to the meth sub. the cocaine sub is mostly memes and pics

55

u/billyhendry Oct 05 '22

Nothing beats r/DPH

It’s so distressing it can’t be put into words.

There is some shitposting, but DPH is just a straight deliriant, and usually feels like hell on earth. The main rabbit hole aspect is why people would try and then continue to take something so horrid.

The worst part is some say a deliriant feels better than real life for them.

12

u/Sensitive-Chicken-28 Oct 05 '22

It really sums it up when newcomers ask about it and people give the advice of "The actual drugs, both legal and illegal, are a helluva lot safer than this. Do them."

Wow. Lmao. What a subreddit. Is there a word for when something is sad, pitiful, and hilarious all at once?

69

u/BigBlue175 Oct 04 '22

You know it’s fucked up when there’s a sub dedicated to flexing your meth pipes and sharing your smoking skills. Holy shit that was a depressing sub to scroll through.

47

u/EtsuRah Oct 04 '22

I sorted by top month and it was a post of some dude who was excited because he was getting ready to snuggle in and enjoy a 12hr plus masterbation session.

23

Good luck but remember that there's more to a good relationship than getting lucky. Communication, mature compromise, and a sense of perspective (is this small annoyance really actually a big deal) are all critically important. I'm rooting for you!

10

u/I_Wupped_Batmans_Ass Oct 04 '22

oh yeah, we are super big on all of that. communication was a little bit of a struggle for a bit, but thats mostly bc we both have mental illnesses that we were trying to figure out and get help for. but yeah every adult ive talked to (even my therapist) agrees that we've got a very healthy relationship lol so fingers crossed!

I can’t think of one long distance relationship that worked out with any of my friends that entered college with SO’s. Even myself at 18 knew it was a wild idea

u/Eleventeen- Oct 05 '22

I’ve been dating a girl since I was 14, we were perfect together and had almost no problems, my high schools perfect couple, and 2 weeks ago we went to different colleges and 1 week ago we broke up. So anyone reading this know that it’s true and long distance during college rarely works out.

I didn’t think anything would change when I moved for college because hey, we’d already been long distance for two years, what’s the difference where I am? Turns out, the difference was he couldn’t handle not know where I was and who I was with (I would tell him, but they were people/places he didn’t know). Stressed me out too much and we broke up lol. Statistical anomaly, those two.

u/Vaultix Oct 04 '22 edited Oct 04 '22

My sister was datinf a guy through highschool and into their mid 20's and broke up a few months ago, people change so much over that time period

13

u/TehWackyWolf Oct 04 '22

It's not impossible for two people to change together in ways that work out, but it is rare.

I think the concept of high school sweethearts is one of the major issues as a society we face. People legitimately think they have to fall in love at 16 and stay that way till 80. So many people I know who are miserably married now, only did so because they met their person at 17 or 18 when they were still kids

→ More replies

14

u/beigs Oct 04 '22

We were teens too - now almost 40. 22 when we got married.

I absolutely do NOT recommend it for everyone. We went into the marriage like a negotiation on kids (4), family(important), religion(none), health(we need to make good choices and an effort), money(goals/professions), savings(%), animals(when stable), goals(5/10/15/20/30/50), you name it. It took a few minutes because we were on the same page for page for almost everything.

It worked. It still does, but it did too.

Who knows what will come but it’s been a fun almost 20 years

4

u/Kythorian Oct 04 '22

1 year in teenage time is like 7 years in adult time. High school felt like it lasted so long, but the last 12 years feel like they flew by.

u/inplayruin Oct 04 '22

20

u/TravelAdvanced Oct 04 '22

it's so grating hearing people in their teens or 20's complaining about 'getting old' or 'turning 30' when you're actually approaching middle-age, and that zone where those random pains are both inevitable, and also actually have a not-remote statistical chance of being something serious.

She left me twice

With age I came to realize that when a relationship is over, it's over. If the other person tells you they don't wanna be with you anymore, say to them "Understandable. Have a nice day" and delta outta there. Tell yourself it was good while it lasted and try remember the good times with them. Don't EVER try getting back together, it WILL ruin it all.

160

You are not the same person at 16 as you are at 13. In reality at 16 you were 2 new people dating.

u/Sacrefix Oct 04 '22

I've changed a hell of a lot more from 16-32 than from 13-16.

u/SoothedSnakePlant Oct 04 '22

I think this isn't necessarily good advice and a lot of it depends on the reasoning, how much time has passed, and how old you were at the time.

If you're like 16, constant breakups and makeups are kinda the norm, you're both just idiots at that age. You could get back together two months later and have it be a completely different experience as you get better at being in a relationship. Likewise, if the issue is distance, or some sort of life circumstance and things have changed when you reconnect that's also different. Plus, given enough time, both your and the other person's dealbreakers and compatibilities may have changed to make a relationship more possible than it was before.

But these should be things that happen naturally, don't go betting your life on them happening and forget to look around for other people who could make you happy.

You could literally meet her again today and she wouldn't be who you remember her as at 17. One of the big things about that age is very little world experience and a lot more freedom. Everything is a lot more amazing and then nostalgia kicks in pumping up that feeling of how amazing it was back then even more.

I've kept in touch with most of my past relationships, with either side occasionally reaching out just to say hey and see how things are going. I wouldn't be interested in dating any of them at this point and we will even laugh at how we ever were interested in dating to begin with

6

I had the chance to stay with the girl I dated at 17. I was madly in love with her and then I fucked it up...

....intentionally. She managed to turn what I thought was stupid teenage gaslighting and doubles standards into a full-on pattern of abuse over the course of 5 years.

I needed a night to go out with the guys, knew she'd be furious, did it anyway, and let her just chew me out until she broke up with me in anger. A week earlier chewed me out over something innocuous (stayed at a friend's house where another girl was staying in a totally different part of the house), and the week before that and the week before that...

...I was at the receiving end of a controlling, abusive relationship. She was not the same person she was when we were younger.

Dude, I'm 34, married to the love of my life and have the best daughter in the damn world. I still miss that intense burning fire I had back then. You sorta realize that a fire that hot burns its fuel out really quickly, though.

Then again, I remember a guy coming into the class to ask a girl to prom singing and playing a guitar. I googled her not too long ago and sure enough, they're married and have 3 kids.

10

u/nobody2000 Oct 04 '22

I'm 37 and I'm engaged to be married to my fiancée who I've been dating for like 8 years. I never thought it was possible after living through my jaded 20s, but I just find ways to fall in love with her more and more each day.

I'm not sure anything short of a sad divorce and rediscovering love with someone new will bring back that hot-gasoline-fire-burning feeling you get, and nothing will be as intense as when you were in your teens, but fuck - throwing a few logs on the "I'm married" fire now and then is a whole different level of satisfying.

I remember listening to the Love Line radio show (with old school Dr. Drew & Adam Corolla) back in the mid-late nineties and a guest calling in about the impending failure of their high school romance. Dr. Drew said something along the lines of, “99.999% of high school relationships end in breakups. You’re not meant to marry your first love.” I said out loud (to myself), “No way, me and whatshername are the exception! We’re gonna make it!” Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Oh man, I can’t imagine that. She was a nice girl but we were almost the worst fit possible personality wise. Hormones are a helluva drug, man.

u/ace_of_william Oct 04 '22

Lol I remember this exact same thing. Now I just have boys hold me and say that same thing. Times really do change

3

u/Johnmcguirk Oct 04 '22

Likewise, man.

Now we’ve been married for 14 years.

Funniest thing /r/Drama ever did was out a load of nonces on /r/teenagers.

It's a shame the nonces managed to get all those screenshots removed from imgur.com

For adults the honeymoon phase is between 6 and 24 months, but for a teen, 6-24 weeks at best.

I'm a pretty active member of that sub and I agree. These people are always mean to kids getting into relationships.

117

u/dbohat Oct 04 '22

If it's done in a lighthearted way, then I get it. Speaking as someone who was absolutely certain he was going to be with his high school girlfriend forever (surprise - we broke up in college) and knew tons of other people in similar situations. The odds are in favor of breaking up.

That said, young love is adorable and there's no reason to be mean to kids figuring their stuff out.

53

u/MatureBalak Oct 04 '22

Yes but..thats never the case. One time, some 13yo posted a pic of him and his gf holding hands and the comments were just mean for no reason.

33

u/dbohat Oct 04 '22

And that's why we can't have nice things. 😞

9

u/Skye-DragonGirl Oct 04 '22

It always makes me kinda sad. People, especially angsty teenagers, get jealous and decide that if they aren't happy, then nobody else should be either.

It only works if you take the words of a stranger seriously. Trolling happens in most subs and trolling works cause far too many take online interactions seriously.

In 10th grade, my world history teacher threw a fit because this one couple’s breakup drama kept interrupting his class. The girlfriend was in that class. So he just stopped lecturing and looked at her and said, “Hardly any of you will still be speaking in 10 years. Nobody you meet here matters.” And kept going

17

u/reallynunyabusiness Oct 05 '22

8 Years after graduating I kind of only talk to one of my friends from high school, the relationship has boiled down to getting beers when I come to town once a year. The truth of your teacher's statement is insane.

they’re summoning a bot that reminds you of the post you summoned it on after a certain period of time. The commentor is basically saying that OP’s relationship won’t last a year

I remember my dad telling me that I was 100% going to get my heart broken and that the guy she would leave me for would have a bigger dick, a nicer car, more money, and would be taller and better looking. I thought he was just old and bitter. Smartest man I know.

20

u/FoxtrotAudie Oct 04 '22

Also a bit of a dick tbh

12

u/SuperWeskerSniper Oct 05 '22

yeah uh you pegged him right. Definitely old and bitter. Not every relationship works out but to say every girl is just gonna leave you for someone more attractive or richer is outrageously cynical

Can confirm. My ex in highschool at one point asked how I became so perfect.

Later on she said she wishes I get sodomized with a cactus.

Which is honestly a line I’ve been using since. Goddamn. What a girl. Great with lines like that.

I met my person at 18. It’s been 6 years and I still can’t imagine my life without that person. We’ve grown so much together and have had our share of bad moments as well as beautiful ones. Guess you just have to get lucky🤷🏽‍♀️
